Nitrosilicon Technology has launched a 65W GaN fast charging reference design, which has a 2C1A output interface, and any USB-C port supports 65W fast charging output. This reference design uses Nitrosilicon's latest GaN integrated controller chip DXP8001FA, which integrates GaN HEMTs and controllers to greatly reduce the difficulty of circuit design and debugging.
At the same time, this chip also supports a wide supply voltage range, which meets the output voltage range of PD fast charging, and does not require additional components for power supply, further simplifying the peripheral circuit. The following charging head network will bring the analysis of the 65W gallium nitride integrated fast charging solution of Nitrogen Silicon Technology, let's take a look at the design of this solution.
Reference design appearance of the nitrosilicon 65W gallium nitride integration solution
The Nitrosilicon 65W reference design has a small board on the side.
The side board is welded with the rectifier bridge and synchronous rectifier circuit, and a small board is also welded on the output side to weld the USB-C output receptacle.
The length of the PCBA module is about 53.8mm measured by vernier calipers.
The width is about 48.3mm.
The thickness is about 24mm.
The measured reference design weight is approximately 65g.
Power on the DEMO, and use the ChargerLAB POWER-Z KM003C to measure that the USB-C1 port supports FCP, SCP, AFC, QC3.0/4+, SFCP, PE2.0, PD3.0, PPS, DCP, SAM 2A, and Apple 2.4A charging protocols.

Reference design analysis of the 65W GaN integration solution
The front of the PCBA module is at a glance, the lower left corner is welded with an input fuse, a safety X2 capacitor, and a small plate at the bottom is welded with an NTC thermistor and a common mode inductor. The high-voltage filter capacitor is welded on the upper left side, and the transformer is welded on the right side. The right side is welded to the output buck board, the buck inductor and the filter solid capacitor are welded on the small board, and the bottom plate is welded with the synchronous rectifier controller and the filter solid capacitor.
The back of the PCBA module is soldered with a GaN integrated controller chip, two SMD Y capacitors and a feedback optocoupler. This reference design is 65W output power, with a fixed voltage output and a synchronous step-down circuit. Let's start with the inputs.

The small plate on the side of the PCBA module is welded with two rectifier bridges, synchronous rectifier controller and synchronous rectifier tube.
The two WRMSB40M rectifier bridges at the input end are from Shenzhen World Industrial Co., Ltd., and the specification is 4A 1000V. WRMSB40M this flexible bridge has a soft recovery curve and relatively smooth turn-off characteristics, it can reduce the junction capacitance of the diode to achieve the effect of very few harmonic oscillations.

A high-voltage filter capacitor is welded behind the small plate of the rectifier bridge, which comes from Yongming.
The high-voltage filter capacitor specification is 27μF 400V.
Behind the input fuse is a differential mode inductor, insulated by a jacket of heat shrink tubing.
The other four filter capacitors have the same specifications, all of which are 27μF 400V, and the total filter capacitor capacity is 135μF.
The core component of this reference design is a GaN integrated controller IC from Nitrosilicon Technology with a model number DXP8001FA. The chip integrates a 650V 165mΩ GaN switch and a high-frequency flyback controller for PD fast charging adapter applications. The chip supports a supply voltage range of 9-85V, covering the output voltage of 3.3-21V for PPS and PD fast charging, without the need for additional power supply windings and step-down circuits.
Nitrosilicon Technology DXP8001FA adopts adaptive multi-mode control, supports DCM and QR working modes, and supports burst mode to improve energy efficiency. The chip integrates a wealth of protection functions, including output over-voltage protection, power supply over-voltage protection, BROWN IN/OUT protection, and sampling resistor short-circuit protection.
Nitrosilicon Technology DXP8001FA adopts DFN8*8 package, which effectively reduces the temperature rise of the chip. By integrating GaN switches and controllers, the conversion efficiency, power density, reliability, and switching frequency are improved, the impact of parasitic parameters on the system is reduced, and the number of components is reduced, simplifying the design of fast charging sources.

Everlight EL1019 optocoupler is used for output voltage feedback.
Synchronous rectifier controller silk screen printing IBHJN, the actual model is MP6908A, from MPS Xinyuan Semiconductor, the maximum working frequency is 600KHz. It supports multiple working modes such as DCM, CCM, QR, and ACF, supports high-side and low-side applications, and has ringing detection to prevent false start-up.
The synchronous rectifier tube is from Wei'an, model WMB072N12LG2, NMOS withstand voltage 120V, conduction resistance 5.4mΩ, and is available in a PDFN5060-8L package.
The output filter capacitor is covered with a red insulating sleeve.
The output terminal is welded with a step-down small plate, the small board is welded with a USB-C female connector, a synchronous step-down switch tube, and a solid-state capacitor is filtered.
The back of the small plate is welded with a step-down inductor.
The main control chips of the two step-down circuits are equipped with intelligent SW3516H for step-down control and protocol identification. Zhirong SW3516H is a highly integrated multi-fast charging protocol dual-port charging chip, which supports A+C port any port fast charging output, and supports dual-port independent current limiting.
SW3516H integrates a 5A high-efficiency synchronous step-down converter. It supports multiple fast charging protocols such as PPS/PD/QC/AFC/FCP/SCP/PE/SFCP, with a maximum output PD of 100W, CC/CV mode, and dual-port management logic. Only a small number of peripheral components are needed to form a complete high-performance multi-fast charging protocol dual-port charging solution.

The other step-down protocol chip also uses the SW3516H of Zhirong Technology.
The two synchronous step-down switches are from Ruijun Semiconductor, model RUH4040M2, NMOS, withstand voltage 40V, conduction resistance of 8mΩ, and is packaged in PDFN3333.

The two filter capacitors are from Relon, with a specification of 220μF 25V, and the two capacitors correspond to two outputs.
A filter capacitor of the same specification is also welded on the back of the small board.
The VBUS switch for USB-C2 and USB-A ports is from Ruijun Semiconductor, model RU30D20, is a dual NMOS, withstand voltage 30V, conduction resistance 8.5mΩ, and uses a PDFN3333 package.

Summary of the charging head network
Through the analysis of the reference design of the silicon nitrogen DXP8001FA GaN integrated controller chip, it is found that the switching power supply of this reference design replaces the design of the controller + GaN switch in the traditional GaN fast charging with only one chip. The reference design uses a GaN integrated controller chip DXP8001FA Silicon Technologies, which is a flyback architecture with a fixed voltage output.
The output adopts two independent step-down circuits, using the step-down protocol chip SW3516H Zhirong Technology, with an external switch tube and a step-down inductor to achieve three-port fast charging.
