The disappearance of flight MH370 has been a major mystery in the history of global aviation since March 8, 2014. The plane, which was carrying 227 passengers and 12 crew members, lost contact with the ground after taking off from Kuala Lumpur. Despite large-scale search and rescue operations conducted by many countries, the exact location of the aircraft has never been found.

However, a recent study may provide us with a key clue to unravel this mystery. The study was done by two experts, Jean-Luc Marchand and Patrick Bréry, who used their expertise and experience to carry out an in-depth analysis.

Luc Marchand is a former aviation program officer at the European Commission and a researcher at the European Space Agency, while Patrick Blairy is a French Air Force pilot and Air France captain with 44 years of aviation experience. Their study proposed an unsearched crash area, arguing that the aircraft fell into the area under the control of an "experienced pilot", which is different from the previously generally accepted hypothesis of a "free fall" crash into the sea.

The team speculated that the nearest drop point was 93.025°E and 35.518°S, and the farthest was 93.039°E and 35.875°S. They believe that the previous search area passed by the wreckage, but in fact, it only takes a few hundred kilometers to the south to salvage the wreckage to find the wreckage.

The two experts claimed that if the search was carried out in the area, using advanced unmanned submersible technology, the new search operation was expected to find the wreckage of flight MH370 within 10 days, and called on the authorities of Australia and Malaysia to launch a new round of searches.

Review of Continental Civil Aviation

-- Civil aviation transport has become an important link in the mainland's transportation system

With the development of the national economy and aviation technology, civil aviation has become an important link in the transportation system of the mainland, and has also become a common choice in the travel mode of mainland citizens. For the whole year of 2021, China's civil aviation transport industry completed a transport turnover of 85.675 billion ton-kilometers, an increase of 7.3 percentage points over 2020. Among them, the total transportation turnover of domestic routes was 64.114 billion ton-kilometers, and the total transportation turnover of international routes was 21.561 billion ton-kilometers.

-- Shanghai has the highest passenger throughput

From the perspective of regional passenger throughput, Shanghai and Beijing are the two cities with the largest civil aviation passenger throughput in mainland China in 2021, with the annual civil aviation passenger throughput reaching 65.4142 million and 57.66 million respectively. Guangzhou, which ranked third, handled 40,249,700 civil aviation passengers in 2021.

According to the 14th Five-Year Plan for Civil Aviation Development released in January 2022, the development of the mainland's civil air transport industry will be divided into two phases: the "recovery and accumulation period" from 2021 to 2022 and the "growth and release period" from 2023 to 2025. By 2025, the mainland's civil air transport industry is expected to achieve all-round high-quality development.

Huatai Securities' research report pointed out that the outlook for 2024 is optimistic about the improvement of the supply and demand pattern, the medium and long-term upward trend of aviation, oil transportation, and the cross-border logistics market driven by the overseas expansion of China's e-commerce platforms. The macro growth rate is slowing down, and the capital risk appetite is declining, which may continue to benefit the infrastructure sector, and the high dividends and defensive nature of highways and ports still have allocation value. In other sub-sectors, express price competition may continue, suppressing the profit of a single ticket, airport profitability is expected to continue to recover, but the uncertainty of duty-free remains, container shipping is facing a large number of new ship delivery pressure, and railway passenger transport may have peak season opportunities.
