On New Year's Eve 2024, a 63-year-old woman died of her injuries on New Year's Day when she accidentally fell while taking a bus in Edmonton.

In a media release issued Monday, Edmonton police said a woman who had fallen from a bus had died.
The woman was injured in a fall from a moving bus in west Edmonton on Friday.
According to police, around 3 p.m., the woman was on a bus traveling south along 174 Street, and when the bus turned to 95 Ave, she stood up and headed for the back door.
Police said she was holding the safety handrail but lost her balance, causing her to fall backwards through the back door of the bus and fall on the road.
She was taken to hospital with serious injuries but died early Monday.

In a statement released on Sunday, the Edmonton Transportation Authority said the doors of the bus lock while moving, but when the woman fell into the back door, the glass on the door broke, causing her to fall out of the bus.
ETS spokesperson Jennifer Badry said: "The bus was at a low speed, stopped immediately, and emergency responders were dispatched.
ETS added that an engineering assessment, including a "root cause analysis," will be conducted.
Police say there are no traffic safety bill charges at this time.
On Monday, the City of Edmonton issued a statement saying ETS "extends its sincerest sympathy and condolences to the family and friends of the deceased lady."
