YGG 2023 年度回顾

2023 has been a busy year for Yield Guild Games (YGG), with us focused on building and launching new proposals. Through the Guild Promotion Program (GAP) and the new "Super Quests" section, the Guild promotes the Xi and growth of the community, while increasing its commitment to missions and reputation. YGG has also embraced competitive competition this year, delving into the world of esports. With the success of the YGG Web3 Game Summit (W3GS), the guild showcased an exciting future.

Here's a year-on-year review of YGG and its partner ecosystem in 2023.

The new decentralized YGG brand logo

In the first quarter of 2023, YGG underwent a brand positioning update designed to empower the community to participate in shaping the guild's identity. By introducing a decentralized branding system, YGG transforms its brand into a logo that can be reimagined, owned by no one and at the same time owned by everyone. The new branding system enables different guilds and community members of YGG to create representations that represent themselves as both part of the YGG network and separate individuals.

In 2023, YGG participated in the Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco, where the guild hosted a networking event at House of Shields to showcase its new brand identity. The YGG team spent a week engaging directly with game developers, studios, and investors who had been hard at work building during the crypto winter. It was also a valuable opportunity for YGG to meet with its partners and regional guild partners such as IndiGG, OLA GG, W3GG and SKYGG, as well as meet members of the media, including GamesBeat's Dean Takahashi and Decrypt's Kate Irwin.

In July, YGG and YGG Philippines hosted the Web3 Community Summit (W3CS), the guild's first community event since the Web3 event in the Philippines in November 2022. Attracting more than 2,500 participants from around the world, W3CS served as a unified platform during market downturns, discussing topics including supermissions and plans for the future of Web3 metaverse.

Focus on mission and reputation

This year, YGG focused on leveraging tasks as a user acquisition model for Web3, and participating in Guild Development Program (GAP) Seasons 3 and 4 co-op games saw an increase in engagement. Community favorites like the mining MMO game "Pixel", the MMORPG game GensoKishi Online, and the action RPG game Champions Ascension have also joined the lineup. In Season 4, guild members have the opportunity to choose from 160 missions, an increase of 75% from the previous season's 90 missions.

The Reputation and Progress (RAP) system, which can help identify the most active and engaged members of a guild, was also introduced in Q3 so that they can connect with the broader Web3 ecosystem opportunities. RAP converts achievements in programs such as GAP into experience points (XP) to advance the building of player profiles as a measure of reputation. The first application of these new features was in GAP Season 4.

Learn more about RAP here:

Building on the success of GAP, in July, YGG's next mission initiative, "Super Mission", was launched. Axie Infinity Origins' first "Super Quest" event ran through September and received critical acclaim from newcomers, OG players, and Axie game studio Sky Mavis. The event guides players through a series of in-game quests, instructing players on how to start the game and progress to more advanced gameplay. Mentors Kookoo and spamandrice worked with the YGG and Sky Mavis teams to develop a series of missions.

At W3GS, Angel Pui, YGG's Head of Global Growth, announced that YGG is now the official training partner of Axie Infinity Origins, with more super missions to be launched in the future with Kookoo and spamandrice at their core

The development of the YGG gaming ecosystem

YGG 2023 年度回顾

In 2023, many games in the YGG ecosystem have launched exciting new developments. The new game also attracted community interest, with guild members organizing community gatherings with other guilds in Pixels and hosting bootcamps and tournaments in the sci-fi trading card game Parallel.

In November, YGG's long-time partner Axie Infinity reintroduced Axie Classic with two new game modes: Arena of the Damned and Major Tournaments, offering players the chance to win the legendary Axie, one of the rarest classes in the collection. Players can also earn Axie Infinity Shards (AXS) and Axie Experience Points (AXP) rewards. Multiplayer action RPG game Big Time, which is a game partner that often appears in YGG community streams, completed Round 1 of the leaderboard and launched Round 2. Another YGG partner, BLOCKLORDS, a medieval mega-strategy game, is also available on the Epic Games Store.

The 2023 GAM3 Awards also recognize eight games in the YGG ecosystem, namely Parallel, Big Time, My Pet Hooligan, Wildcard, Pixels, Mighty Action Heroes, Champions Ascension, and Star Atlas.

Strengthen the foundation of Web3

This year, YGG deepened its partnership with a blockchain protocol focused on Web3 gaming. Through a partnership with Polygon Labs, YGG supports gaming on Polygon to enhance engagement in Web3 gaming through joint campaigns. The guild is also expanding its ecosystem to Coinbase's Ethereum Layer 2 project, the Base Chain, providing more engaging tasks and rewarding experiences for YGG players and the broader on-chain gaming community.

YGG has deepened its partnership with XPLA through a token swap with XPLA and the integration of YGG missions and achievements into XPLA's Web3 ecosystem. As a validator of gaming blockchains such as Oasys, Ronin, and XPLA, YGG also ensures network stability and decentralization, cementing its commitment to the ever-evolving gaming space.

YGG Elite Esports Environment

YGG continues to position itself as a leader in Web3 esports, organizing community-led tournaments and larger regional competitions while developing community leaders who are committed to advancing the esports industry. Notably, the guild has played a key role in developing esports talent, such as Disi, the captain of the YGG Elite, and spamandrice, the Axie tournament champion who joined in March, and Sequinox, who joined the YGG Axie Infinity and Parallel teams in December. The 2023 XENO PRO MANILA TOUR AT THE END OF W3GS IS YGG'S CORE EVENT IN THE ESPORTS SPACE AND IS A TESTAMENT TO YGG'S EFFORTS OVER THE PAST YEAR.
