Zhu Wen: Trouble with drunkenness

During the Tang Dynasty, the two major festivals made Li Keyong and Zhu Wen originally have a close dinner, but because someone lost their words after drinking during the banquet, it turned into a killing dinner, which caused heavy casualties, and even made these two major festivals make them plant deep hatred and hatred, and fought with each other for 30 years, writing a chapter of nonsense for the history of the Tang Dynasty and the five dynasties.

In the first year of Zhonghe (881 AD), Tang Xizong ordered Li Ke to suppress Huangchao. In the third year of Zhonghe (883 AD), Li Keyong led 40,000 cavalry to attack Chang'an, and Huang Chao led an army of 150,000 to meet the battle, but suffered a heavy defeat and had to withdraw from Chang'an. After Huang Chao withdrew from Chang'an, he attacked Chenzhou (now Huaiyang, Henan) for a long time, but attacked Bianzhou (Kaifeng, Henan), because Bianzhou was a battleground for soldiers, and Huang Chao wanted to clean up Zhu Wen. Zhu Wen was originally a general of Huangchao, but when he saw that Huangchao was difficult to achieve, he returned to the Tang Dynasty. Tang Xizong gave him the name Zhu Quanzhong, and appointed him as the envoy of the Hedong Jiedu to guard Bianzhou.

Zhu Wen: Trouble with drunkenness

Zhu Wen thought that his current strength could not be compared with Huang Chao at all, so he asked Li Keyong for help. Li Keyong was about to make a contribution at that time, and when he heard Zhu Wen's plea for help, he gladly accepted the invitation. On the eighth day of the fifth month of the fourth year of Zhonghe (884 AD), Li Keyong caught up with Huangchao in Zhongmu (now Zhongmu County, Zhengzhou City, Henan Province), and took the opportunity of Huangchao to cross the Bianshui River in the north to launch a surprise attack, destroying 10,000 enemies. Subsequently, Shang Rang, Li Yan, Huo Cun, Ge Congzhou, Zhang Guiba and other generals of the Great Qi Army raised the white flag. Shang Rang was Huang Chao's most powerful confidant, and his surrender showed that the Great Qi regime was on the verge of death. At this time, the overall situation of the defeat of the Great Qi Army had been decided, so it had to retreat to Shandong. After crossing the Bianhe River, Huang Chao continued to run north, and Li Keyong led his army in hot pursuit. On the ninth day of the fifth month, Li Keyong caught up with Huang Chao in Fengqiu, and after a period of covering, Huang Chao's main force completely collapsed. Subsequently, Huang Chao fled to Yanzhou with a thousand soldiers. Li Keyong led his troops to chase after him, traveling more than 200 miles in one day and one night, and when he chased to Yiju County (northwest of Cao County), he ran too fast and only a few hundred cavalry followed him. Due to the lack of people and horses, Li Keyong decided to return to Bianzhou to rest for a while.

Zhu Wen: Trouble with drunkenness

On 14 May, Li Keyong went to Bianzhou and set up camp outside the city. Zhu Wen insisted on inviting Li Keyong to enter the city, set up a pavilion for Li Keyong at Shangyuan Station, and washed the dust for him. Shangyuanyi is a post station in Bianzhou. The post station is a department set up on the main road of water and land transportation in ancient times, similar to a guest house, for officials and officials to rest and transfer horses on the way. Zhu Wen set up a banquet to entertain Li Keyong, sang and danced, and was very respectful, and the atmosphere during the banquet was harmonious. But when the wine was half-drunk, Li Keyong began to wander, he felt that he had made outstanding achievements and was kind to Zhu Wen, and he didn't think much of Zhu Wen, who was born in a rogue. He started drunkenness, teased prostitutes, took Zhu Wen's hand and boasted that he helped the court to quell the rebellion, regarded himself as a meritorious hero, and belittled the generals of the official army, and had many bad words and hurtful words. Zhu Wen is a good man and a woman, who can be humiliated in public on his own territory, and in anger, he suddenly starts to kill, but he can't bear it. Zhu Wen accompanied Li Keyong to drink until dusk, and when he was drunk and unconscious, he sent someone to take him to a luxurious box to rest.

After settling Li Keyong and his entourage, Zhu Wen immediately sent his general Yang Yanhong to use the old chariots tied together as roadblocks to block the way, and then sent troops to surround Shangyuanyi. The Bianjun first killed the sentry, then shouted loudly and rushed to the post. Li Keyong's personal entourage Xue Zhiqin, Shi Jingsi and others tried their best to resist and launched a fierce fight. Xue Zhiqin's archery skills are extremely clever, and there are no false shots, and one person shoots and kills dozens of Bianbing soldiers. The besieging Bianjun couldn't help but be frightened, and although they were shouting loudly, they didn't dare to step forward easily, so they threw torches at the post house, intending to burn Li Keyong and others. For a while, the shouts shook the sky, the fire ignited, and Shangyuanyi was shrouded in a sea of fire. A dozen of Li Ke's own soldiers were the first to be startled by the cry and rushed forward to fight the sneak attackers who rushed to the door. Li Keyong was still in a drunken dream, unaware of what was happening. His attendant Guo Jingbai noticed that something had changed, and hurriedly pushed Li Keyong under the bed, poured cold water on his face, and said, "Bian Shuai plotted to kill Sikong!" Li Keyong opened his eyes and woke up. Li Keyong is worthy of being a battle-hardened general, he reacted immediately, stood up and drew his bow and arrows, and shot at the door with his personal soldier Xue Zhiqin, killing dozens of people at once.

Seeing that Li Keyong was about to be burned to ashes, suddenly the sky changed, thunder and lightning broke out, and heavy rain poured down, extinguishing the torches in the hands of the incoming offenders and the fire of Shangyuanyi, and the surroundings were gloomy. Xue Zhiqin helped Li Keyong, led a few guards to break through the wall, and walked forward by the light of lightning. The bridge was guarded by the Bianzhou army, and after a fierce battle, Li Ke used his talent to cross the bridge. The fierce general Shi Jingsi blocked and covered in the back, and finally died in battle. Li Keyong climbed to the south gate of Bianzhou City, and slipped down with a rope to tie his body, and finally escaped and ran back to the camp. Only Li Keyong and a few others survived in this incident, and because the Shatuo cavalry was not fortified and could not organize any resistance, more than 300 people including Chen Jingsi, the prison army, were killed. Yang Yanhong said to Zhu Wen when he was planning: "If the Hu people are in a hurry, they will ride horses, and if they see those riding horses, they will shoot them." That night, Yang Yanhong happened to ride a horse in front of Zhu Wen and was shot dead by Zhu Wen. It turns out that Zhu Wen is behind this conspiracy.

Zhu Wen: Trouble with drunkenness

Li Keyong returned to the camp and wept opposite Mrs. Liu. In the early hours of the morning, he was going to lead the army to attack Bianzhou, and Mrs. Liu persuaded: "Sikong Bi is a thief for the country, and he is in urgent need of the princes in the east. If you rebel against the siege of the city, then the song will be in me, and people will be able to excuse themselves. Li Keyong thought that his wife's words were reasonable, so he led the troops to evacuate and sent someone to send a letter to Zhu Wen to ask for the guilt. Zhu Wen replied: "On the night of the theft, it was not the servant's intention, it was the court that sent angels to conspire with the tooth general Yang Yanhong. "Put the responsibility on the imperial envoy and Yang Yanhong. Li Keyong would not believe Zhu Wen's nonsense, he is a brave and good general, of course there will be revenge. He returned to his base Taiyuan, immediately recruited troops and horses, repaired weapons, and at the same time gave Tang Xizong a note, listing Zhu Wen's crimes, asking the imperial court to issue an edict to crusade, and sent his younger brother Li Kexiu to lead 10,000 people to wait in the river. However, there were also many ministers in the court who were inclined to Zhu Wen, so they exonerated Zhu Wen in front of Tang Xizong. At this time, Xizong was still fleeing in Chengdu, and his greatest wish was to return to Chang'an smoothly and be the Prince of Peace for a few days, so he shelved Li Keyong's request. Tang Xizong was a puppet, with no soldiers, no power, and no ability to fund, so he could only issue an edict to reconcile the two.

In order to appease Li Keyong, Tang Xizong awarded him the title of King of Longxi County in the name of his meritorious service in breaking the Yellow Nest. At that time, in order to deal with Qin Zongquan in the west with all his strength and avoid being attacked by the enemy, Zhu Wen also sent envoys to the door to apologize and give generous gifts. Li Keyong didn't want to get angry, but because the people from several parties were very thoughtful, and he was really inconvenient to have a seizure. At the same time, he also considered that he was fledgling at this time, and he also wanted to annex other regions to expand his power, so he temporarily forgave Zhu Wen, but he wanted to make Zhu Wen uneasy, and often threatened to lead troops to crusade against Zhu Wen. Due to the mutual checks and balances of various interests, the conflict between the two sides did not break out in a short time.

This dinner is indeed emotional. Originally, Zhu Wen invited Li Keyong to eat in order to slap him, but Li Keyong went crazy at the dinner table, did not choose what to say, scolded Zhu Wen to shame himself, and finally let Zhu Wen make the nobleman an enemy. In fact, even if there is no change in Shangyuanyi, the conflict between Li Keyong and Zhu Wen is inevitable. In the process of suppressing the Huangchao Rebellion in the last years of the Tang Dynasty, Zhu Wen and Li Keyong gradually became the two largest forces. Li Keyong occupied Hedong at that time, but he was not satisfied, he wanted to develop eastward, and he was bound to clash with Zhu Wen, who was dominating the Central Plains. After the change of Shangyuanyi, he and Zhu Wen formed a deep hatred, and never stopped fighting openly and secretly. The war between the two sides lasted for 30 years, and it did not end until the fall of the Later Liang.
