More than 70% of migrant workers want to change jobs
Only a 5% salary increase is expected
(1) Promotion has become the main reason for job hopping
In the past, many migrant workers would choose to change jobs in order to strive for higher salaries. But the survey expects job hopping to be significantly lower in 2024 to just 5 to 10 percent, down 10 percent from 15 to 20 percent last year.
74% of the employees surveyed said they are still actively looking for job opportunities in the next 1 year, with promotion (37%) being the main reason for changing jobs.
It is worth noting that when asked if they would like to consider a counter offer from their current employer, i.e., offering better terms, 52% of respondents said they would consider it even after accepting a new job.
However, this reflux is not stable. According to the survey, 38% of respondents who had accepted counter-proposals also left the company within six months.
(2) Employers reduce employment costs
Although Hong Kong's recruitment market is expected to improve next year, employer and respondent confidence remains quite weak, and there has been no significant increase in the number of recruits so far.
It is worth mentioning that the survey found that this year's recruitment positions in Hong Kong are concentrated in the middle level, and there is a phenomenon of replacing the gap in the upper positions with sub-employees, and the company as a whole is using this form to reduce costs.
Professionals from junior to assistant levels are more likely to receive a 6 to 10 percent salary increase.
At the same time, employers are inclined to hire contractors to adapt to the changing business environment, and contract job hiring in the technology, financial services, and business sectors is likely to increase.
