Recently, my family was working on the tile installation of a new house, and the renovation worker told me a new technology: instead of using traditional sand and cement, all tile adhesive is used. For this proposal, because I have rich experience in decoration and know the role of tile adhesive, I decisively rejected it. However, the workers were still not reconciled and proposed another option: using tile adhesive. Hearing this, I feel a little angry, can't you continue to work without glue?
In the past, we usually used cement and sand when applying tiles, mixed with water to make cement mortar, and then tiled. However, cement mortar has a disadvantage that its adhesion is not strong enough. To solve this problem, a new type of material known as "tile glue" has emerged – it is a powdery substance containing a mixture of cement, sand and glue. When the water is blended, it becomes a paste-like substance that resembles a cement mortar but is more cohesive. However, not all tiles need to use tile adhesive, after all, its price is relatively high. If tile adhesive is used throughout the house, the cost of tiling can be 2 to 3 times that of cement mortar.
The advantage of tile adhesive is its strong tackness and low thickness, so it is only needed in places where it is difficult to tile or where there is a high requirement for thickness. For example, many homeowners who do a secondary renovation do not want to remove the old tiles. However, since the old tiles themselves have a certain thickness, if you put more tiles on them, the whole space will shrink. In addition, the surface of the old tile is too smooth, which may cause the new tile to not adhere to it. This is where tile adhesive comes in.
There is almost only one application scenario for tile adhesive, and in other cases, it is necessary to use tile adhesive at most.
Tile adhesive and tile adhesive, although there is only one word difference, there is a world of difference. Tile adhesive is a kind of glue, which needs to be used with cement mortar when tiling. The specific usage is to first apply a layer of adhesive on the back of the tile, then apply cement mortar as in the traditional tiling method, and finally attach it to the wall. So, when do you need to use tile adhesive?
The tile size is too large
When the size of the tile is large, the weight is large, and it is not easy to fix it on the wall, it is necessary to use tile adhesive.
The water absorption rate of the tile is too low
: When the water absorption rate of the tile is very low, it will cause the tile to be unable to absorb the moisture in the cement mortar, which will affect the adhesion between the cement mortar and the tile. In this case, tile adhesive is also required.
Therefore, when encountering large size tiles or tiles with low water absorption rate on the wall, it is necessary to use tile adhesive. It should be noted that adhesive is only required for tiling. As for floor tiles, no matter how large the size and how low the water absorption rate is, they can be paved directly with cement mortar - because of its gravity downward, even if the adhesion is not high enough, it is not easy to fall off.
If you want to compare tile adhesive and tile adhesive, there is no doubt that tile adhesive is superior. This can also be seen from the price: the amount of tile adhesive is large, the price is high, and the cost of using tile adhesive is 1.5 to 2 times that of using ceramic tile adhesive. From a construction point of view, the use of tile adhesive can directly apply tiles, while the use of tile adhesive requires the blending of cement mortar. From a stability point of view, the use of tile adhesive can prevent tiles from falling off and hollowing, as well as preventing the wall from falling off due to too smooth surface. From the perspective of construction effect, the wall surface after the construction of tile adhesive is thinner, and the effect of using ceramic tile adhesive is similar to that of cement mortar. In other words, tile adhesive can completely replace tile adhesive, and the effect is better.
However, this does not mean that we should choose tile adhesive directly. From the point of view of construction costs, we certainly had to choose a more affordable option. When we don't need the advantages of tile adhesive, the so-called "advantages" become insignificant. It is better to choose the cheapest solution - if you can use cement mortar, you don't need glue, and if you can use adhesive, you don't need tile glue.
