Under the haze of Xue Yue's victory at Kinmen, General Xie Fang, with his profound insight and bold decision-making, successfully broke the difficult problem of crossing the sea and won a brilliant victory in the Battle of Hainan Island.
The defeat in the Battle of Kinmen in 1949 was a setback for the PLA, but General Xie saw a strategic opportunity to capture Hainan Island with keen insight. Without hesitation, he put forward a plan for crossing the sea for operations, showing excellent military insight.
General Xie Fang was well aware of the complexity of sea-crossing operations and formulated a detailed "Instructions for Preparations for Sea-Crossing Operations." He attached great importance to the organization and management of ships, shipwrights, and pilots, and through Xi, the soldiers were familiar with the performance of the ships and understood key information such as meteorology, tides, and wind directions. General Xie Fang even selected capable cadres and agents to ensure the efficient conduct of the sea-crossing operation.
