Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, has been awarded the title of UNESCO City of Music, and the city's Department of Culture and Tourism recently invited top musicians and music groups from seven countries to celebrate with seven special concerts. On December 15th, Fang Jinlong, composer Ma Jiuyue and the China Chamber Orchestra performed a special concert of "Music and Poetry" as the first performance of the series in Abu Dhabi.
In recent years, through Fang Jinlong's popular science, many people know that the ancestor of the pipa is the Oud in the Middle East. More than 1,000 years ago, it crossed thousands of mountains and rivers to China, and later "married" with the descendants of Qin Pipa and Han Pipa, and gave birth to Pipa, which was in the limelight in the Tang Dynasty for a while. Abu Dhabi is located in the valley of the two rivers, which is where the oud was born, so this trip to Chinese music is even more extraordinary.
At 20 o'clock local time on December 15, the "Music and Book of Poetry" concert was staged at the Abu Dhabi Cultural Tourism Center Foundation Auditorium as scheduled. "Quicksand", "Elf" and "Song of Fangma" show the spirit of innovation and experimentation of Chinese traditional music, "Shu Mountain", "Three Alleys of Plum Blossoms" and "Flowing Water" tell about faith and friendship, "In That Distant Place" and "Send Me a Rose" offer sincerity, and Fang Jinlong and Ma Jiuyue's original Chinese music album "Music and Book of Poetry" selected works "Qiong Yao", "Jiayu", "Shuoren" and "Xuanniao" convey the blessing of "always be good", carrying the Chinese faith and culture that has been around for centuries, and won warm applause from the audience.
That night, Emirati oud maestro Naseer Shamma sat in the front row and listened. The day before, Fang Jinlong and Ma Jiuyue took the team to visit the Wudeqin School where he was the principal, to find the ancestors of the pipa, and to conduct an "unreliable" impromptu cooperation concert with local musicians. Naseer Shamma gave Fang Jinlong his oud score and gave him a homemade oud at the concert, and when Fang Jinlong received this precious gift and plucked the strings, the audience applauded. Fong told Naseer Shamma: "On my next visit, I will also bring my copy of the five-stringed lute so that it will remain in Abu Dhabi forever and become a symbol of friendship between our two countries." ”
With the strong support of the Abu Dhabi Culture and Tourism Authority, the "Fang Jinlong Chinese Music" team walked into the famous Louvre Museum on the Sea and performed "General Order", "Xuanniao" and "Remembering Jiangnan" in a flash mob mode, drawing a successful end to this Chinese music journey.
It is reported that from February 2024, the special concert of "Music and Book of Poetry" will tour nearly 30 cities in China, and before that, music fans can look forward to the "online debut" of Fang Jinlong's flash mob version of the five-string pipa "General's Order" at the Louvre Abu Dhabi.
