The tour was inexplicably attacked

According to reports, Ms. Yuan, a 22-year-old female student from Hebei, China, is currently in her third year at Universiti Putra Malaysia. During her vacations, she often travels around Malaysia with her classmates and friends to explore the culture and scenery of Malaysia.

Last Friday (15th), she and a female friend came to the famous tourist city of Kuantan and planned to start a two-day and one-night trip.

But at 6.11pm on Saturday, after a tour of the Kuantan 188 Tower, they were about to return to the Kuantan Sky Tree Hotel to collect their luggage, when they got out of the car, something unexpected happened.

The ride-hailing driver attacked them, causing Ms. Yuan to fracture her right index and middle fingers.

According to the description, the local Malay driver first hit Ms. Yuan with his hands and then chased them with a tripod, and it was the hotel staff who stepped forward to stop the violence.

Ms. Yuan said that during their travel in Kuantan, they all called Grab (a well-known ride-hailing app in Southeast Asia) to get around, and there was no problem every time, but this time they did not expect to be attacked by the driver.

She said: "On Friday (15th) night, there was also a driver who made a few remarks at us, gesturing at us to close the door too hard, so when I was attacked, I thought of it. ”

According to reports, Ms Yuen said that because she and her friend did not speak Malay and the driver did not understand English, the two sides could not communicate at all. In interviews, she also frequently asked reporters whether there are any taboos in Malaysia about closing the car door, so much so that she accidentally offended the driver.

She said she was upset after being attacked, and although the hotel staff advised her to call the police, she refused because she could not speak Malay, and ended up only going to the hospital for a check-up.

Members of parliament stepped in to help

According to reports, on the afternoon of the 19th, accompanied by Shen Chunxiang, the state assemblyman for the London District of the Justice Party, Ms. Yuan recounted the terrible experience at a press conference.

Ms. Yuan described how she and her friends were horrified after being attacked. After a brief treatment at the hotel, in order to avoid possible retaliation, they hurried to the Kuantan Bus Terminal to catch the bus back to Kuala Lumpur. She recalls the situation, her fingers were swollen and the pain in her right hand was unbearable, but they were afraid to stay in Kuantan and had to leave in a hurry.

After learning of Ms. Yuan's condition, Shen Chunxiang personally went to Kuala Lumpur to pick her up at 4pm yesterday. He did not return to Kuantan until midnight and accompanied her to the police station to report the case, and then went to the Kuantan General Hospital for a medical examination.

Ms Yuen emphasised that in the past three years, she has travelled to various parts of Peninsular Malaysia, including Penang, Ipoh, etc., but this time she was the only one who was attacked in Kuantan.

It is suspected that he has received another threat

She pointed out that she received a reply from the Grab platform on Sunday (17th) saying that the account of the driver who attacked her had been frozen. However, 10 minutes later, she received several strange phone calls, which she suspected were from the driver.

"I can be sure that when the Grab platform blocked the driver's orders, the driver got angry and threatened me with those strange calls. ”

Ms. Yuan said that after the accident, she just wanted to be treated fairly. She fears that if the driver is not punished, she may be retaliated against.

She said that nothing like this had ever happened in domestic tourism before, and that she had been using online car-hailing before.

According to reports, Shen Chunxiang said that as a member of the Pengzhou government, they will bear the cost of Ms. Yuan's medical examination and medical expenses. At the same time, he called on the police to bring the perpetrators of the attack on passengers to justice as soon as possible.

"In any case, drivers should not use force to beat others. ”

He also stressed the hope that the incident would not become a stain on Pahang's tourism industry, nor would it affect China-Malaysia relations and the confidence of Chinese tourists in Malaysian tourism.
