The Athletic's David Ornstein wrote about Liverpool's plans for the winter window: Liverpool are not expected to be busy in January, and in midfield, Palhinha is not in line with their recruitment strategy and Andre is no longer a target for them. The contract issues of several core players will also be on the agenda for some time to come.

After 17 rounds of the Premier League this season, Liverpool is in second place in the standings with a record of 11 wins, 5 draws and 1 loss. In the Europa League, Liverpool topped the group and advanced to the knockout stage. In the English League Cup, Liverpool just eliminated West Ham United 5-1 and broke into the semi-finals.

Liverpool's priority this summer was to 'rebuild' the midfield position, so they brought in McAllister, Szobosloy, Endo and Hrafenberg.

For club owners who stick to a breakeven-breaking, living within their means, it can be a huge financial outlay for the team and the squad that they need. Under the supervision of sporting director Schmattke, the Reds did not neglect any position on the pitch that needed improvement. As things stand, Liverpool are in contention for four trophies this season, and despite the perception that Jurgen Klopp's side are still lacking something, there seems to be no concern within the club.

Things are not set in stone and Liverpool are always on the lookout for possible vacancies, such as the introduction of Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven at the start of the year. However, Liverpool are not expected to be particularly busy in this winter window.

Previously, when Liverpool were trying to strengthen their 'number six' position and considering a variety of candidates, many suggested they should sign Fluminense's Andre. However, none of the parties could reach an agreement at that time...... Now, Brazilian midfielder Andre is no longer on the Reds' list of potential signings.

Liverpool have a few big decisions to make – defender Joel Matip and midfielder Thiago are on contract until 30 June next year, and in terms of key players, Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold will all be in contract year at the end of the season (the three are on contract until 30 June 2025).
