On December 19, German flag carrier Lufthansa Group announced that it had placed orders with Boeing and Airbus for a total of up to 200 aircraft. Among them, Boeing is "40+60", and 60 Boeing 737 MAX 8 are ordered, and another 60 may be added in the future. Airbus is "60+40" and has ordered 60 A220-200s for Lufthansa City Airlines, with 20 more possible in the future. Lufthansa has also ordered 40 Airbus A320 family aircraft.
Lufthansa's super order of 200 aircraft can be described as "rain and dew", half of Airbus and Boeing.
These 40 Boeing 737 MAX 8s and 40 Airbus A220-300s increase the Lufthansa Group's actual order book from around 200 to 280. The total value of the order reached US$9 billion (about 64.1 billion yuan), which is a huge investment, but also a significant investment in the future. The aircraft are expected to be delivered between 2026 and 2032.
Lufthansa said that with this order, they are "accelerating the largest fleet modernization in the history of the airline".

The Lufthansa Group currently has a fleet of 708 aircraft with an average age of 13.6 years. Including 30 A220s, 86 A319s, 238 A320s, 104 A321s, 46 A330s, 36 A340s, 25 A350XWB, 8 A380s, 27 Boeing 747s, 3 Boeing 767s, 29 Boeing 777s, 5 Boeing 787s, 28 Bombardier CRJ-900s. 43 Embraer ERJ-190s. It can be said that it is the giant of the airline. Lufthansa's current Boeing order backlog includes 34 787 Dreamliners, seven 777-8 freighters and 20 777-9 aircraft.
