Today's headline first article, please do not carry it, offenders will be investigated,
Recently, on the day of the National Memorial Day, this academician He once again caused some controversy.
He Zuoxiu said: "During the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, many people thought that it was impossible to fight, and the final result was just to stay on the 38th parallel. Despite the resounding victory, this is the era of nuclear war, and how many of those who talk about war rashly really understand nuclear weapons?"
There are only two countries in the world, one is called China and the other is called a foreign country. This phrase is now used for ridicule.
However, 70 years ago, during the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, China did a great thing for the world. Such an awesome thing is certainly worth bragging about for the rest of our lives.
I see some people talking about the Korean War all the time, sarcastically that we were only mentally victorious. From China's point of view, the success of driving the UN forces back to the 38th parallel is undoubtedly a victory.
However, it is necessary to remind some people that although the "national army" is mentioned, it should be noted that this is not a "united" "national army", but a "United Nations" army, and the two are completely different armies, and their combat effectiveness is also very different.
From the point of view of North Korea, they failed to unify the peninsula, so it can be considered a failure. For South Korea, they were not reunited by North Korea, which is considered a success. And for the United States, having succeeded in saving South Korea, but failing to achieve its goal of later occupying North Korea, was defeated by China.
If you have difficulty understanding these ideas, it is advisable to go home and think about them. Oh yes, those who say that the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea is the Korean War, nine times out of ten are not Chinese.
Let's briefly talk about the comparison of weapons and equipment at that time.
In other words, how big is the gap between the weapons of the US army and the volunteers? Taylor, commander of the US Eighth Army, used a word called "primitive" to describe the weapons of the volunteers. He said that although the volunteers are brave and have received good terrain training in their tactical level, their equipment is really quite "primitive", and most of them are antiques that we have sent to the military museum a long time ago.
For example, light weapons, most of the firearms used by the volunteer army are trophies from various countries during World War II, from the Soviet Union to the United States, to Germany, Japan, and the United Kingdom, all kinds of guns are mixed together. Let's not talk about the performance of these "made in all countries" firearms, the supply of ammunition alone is a big problem.
And the American servicemen have long since replaced themselves with advanced Garand M1 semi-automatic rifles, Browning M1918A2 automatic rifles and a large number of heavy machine guns. These guns were tested in World War II, their performance was quite reliable, and the ammunition supply was abundant, which can be described as "endless bullets".
At the beginning of the Volunteer Army, each division had only a dozen howitzers or mountain artillery, and the transportation of artillery had to rely on mules and horses, and large-caliber artillery was a "scarce commodity".
At that time, the American army was very good at artillery, and they invented the "Van Vliet ammunition volume", and the artillery fire was simply overwhelming. According to some data, the artillery density of the United Nations forces under the leadership of the United States is 40 to 1 compared with that of the volunteers. That is, the density of artillery fire in the American army is almost 40 times higher than that of the Volunteer Army.
The gap in weapons and equipment between the two sides is a big surprise, but what is even more unexpected is that this well-prepared "modern army" did not achieve a final victory.
Although the Volunteers were significantly inferior in terms of equipment to the U.S. Army, they eventually shattered the legend of the invincibility of the U.S. Army and forced the arrogant aggressors to sign the Armistice Agreement on July 27, 1953.
The victory in the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea was not as disastrous as Academician He Zuoxiu said. Whether it is in terms of military equipment, sacrificed personnel, or national strategy, this war is a crucial battle for the establishment of a nation.
If it were not for the strategic victory to resist US aggression and aid Korea, it is estimated that Academician He Zuoxiu would not have been able to enjoy the high allowances, high medical care and high welfare provided by the state, let alone surfing the Internet.
After nearly 9 years, the Chinese Academy of Sciences has updated the "Code of Conduct for Academicians".
"Academician" is the highest honor for scientific and technological workers in the mainland, and it has always attracted much attention. Since the establishment of the academician system, there has been confusion in the competition for academicians in various units, and when individual academicians involved topics such as academic misconduct and economic issues, they have also triggered extensive discussions.
Therefore, the Chinese Academy of Sciences stipulates that it is forbidden to participate in activities that damage the reputation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and its academician groups; it is forbidden to seek improper benefits by using the title of academician; it is forbidden to participate in activities other than the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Engineering, academic departments, academic groups, and academic journals in the name of academicians; it is forbidden to participate in all kinds of activities that are appropriate to the occasion and entertainment; and it is forbidden to participate in non-academic activities with the title of "academician".
During the Cultural Revolution, although He Zuoxiu was not engaged in scientific research, he attracted wide attention for his articles guiding the bigwigs of the Chinese Academy of Sciences to engage in scientific research. After the Cultural Revolution, his change of identity became more noticeable, he befriended a certain leader, and ran for the sale of the land of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and all the gods and goddesses made a lot of money, but the salaries of academicians and professors sometimes could not be paid.
During the Cultural Revolution, the articles written by He Zuoxiu have been deleted by unknown organizations in recent years, and they cannot be found on the entire Internet. So now He Zuoxiu's reputation has become bright again!
By the way, from a secretary to an academician, although he doesn't do much scientific research every day, he can make so many bigwigs in different disciplines sign his name when they publish articles, and He Zuoxiu is unique. There is no one before and no one after us!
He Zuoxiu, born in 1927, studied Xi with Zhou Guangzhao in Dubna, and after returning to China, he participated in the work of nuclear weapons theory. He was a veteran party member who had good things to say about some scientists who had organizational concerns, such as Zhou Guangzhao.
However, He Zuoxiu himself said: "Among the theoretical physicists of the atomic bomb and the hydrogen bomb, some of them are people who have made great contributions, such as Academician Zhou Guangzhao and Academician Yu Min. As for He Zuoxiu, he only did a small job. However, since I was a 'fly' on the tail of a horse that followed the horse forward, I kept up with the times. This is a genuinely lovely person.
In the late 60s, he left the development of nuclear weapons and went to the Atomic Energy Institute. Although he was about 40 years old and had a strong ability to work, he was unlucky and encountered the Great Revolution. Even Acta Physica Sinica was discontinued, so it was difficult for him and his colleagues to find a complete record of their academic work during that time and to give a reasonable evaluation based on it.
But they were not idle, and based on their interest in the problem of hadron substructure, and incidentally proving the great idea of the leader, they invested in the construction of the layer submodel, of which He Zuoxiu was an active member. Although the work is excellent, it is only slightly off-directional, and this model is not widely accepted in the academic community. But in scientific practice, although this exploration was unsuccessful, it also had positive implications, at least to tell those who came after it that this path would not work.
In times of social upheaval, these efforts also play a role in retaining and nurturing talent in particle physics. In 1982, the research of the layer submodel won the second prize of the National Natural Science Award for its outstanding performance, which was a recognition of the hard work of He Zuoxiu's team. In the 80s, He Zuoxiu was elected as a member of the Faculty Committee, which was a high recognition of his academic ability.
However, as he grew older and his ability to work creatively declined, he turned his energies to the study of the "dialectics of nature". Although Ho's scientific literacy is obvious to all, opposing "pseudoscience" is also a small achievement. Those who accuse him of being the "head of the four evildoers" and "the almighty academician who does not understand physics" are actually unfair. As for him following the situation, mixing quantum mechanics with the concept of three watches, that's another story.
In 2022, when He Zuoxiu and his wife were interviewed, they said something that caused a lot of controversy: "There is still a huge gap between China's scientific research level and the United States, for example, when I go to the hospital to see a doctor, 95% of the medical equipment used is imported, and the principles used by these devices are all basic principles of physics, our contribution is 0, and innovation is all abroad." ”
This absolute judgment of scientific contribution has clearly drawn some criticism, especially for a country such as China that competes with the United States on many fronts, which is too disparaging.
What's more, the claim that 95% of medical equipment is imported has long been a cliché, and it is somewhat inappropriate to mention and belittle the contribution of Chinese again. In recent years, domestic medical equipment such as Mindray R, Neusoft, United Imaging, Wandong, etc. have already achieved remarkable success in the domestic market, and this kind of remark inevitably seems to lack understanding of the actual situation.
As an academician, Ho Zuoxiu's verbal comments without conducting investigation and research really raises questions about his professional stance. Such behavior begs the question, what is his real intention?
