So, is the main purpose of the Three Gorges Dam, which the state has spent so much effort building, really only in terms of energy? Obviously, this is not the case, and we all subconsciously ignore the most essential role of the dam, which is flood control.
The middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River have always been flood-prone areas, and the devastating flood of 1998 was a deep impression on many people, and the facilities and other belongings that were washed away by this disaster were worth hundreds of billions of yuan.
After the construction of the Three Gorges Dam, we can find that such a large flood is no longer visible, thanks to the obstruction of the Three Gorges Project, which will release water from the reservoir during the rainy season and then fight the summer flood peak.
