Today, the 5th World Forum on Archaeology Shanghai opened at Shanghai University. During the forum from December 15th to December 17th, experts and scholars in the field of archaeology will discuss new fields and advances in archaeology, as well as the importance and value of cultural heritage. This morning, 9 major field archaeological discoveries, 10 major archaeological research achievements, and 1 lifetime achievement award were announced at the forum. Among them, the new archaeological discovery project of Sanxingdui site in Sichuan - "A dazzling array of sacrificial relics - the witness of the glory of ancient Shu and the pluralistic unity of Chinese civilization" was successfully selected for the Major Field Archaeological Discovery Award, which is also the only Chinese project selected for 9 major field archaeological discoveries.

It is reported that the "World Archaeological Forum Shanghai" was established in 2013 to promote the investigation, protection and utilization of global archaeological resources and cultural heritage, and is an international platform for publicizing archaeological achievements, promoting archaeological research and highlighting the modern significance of cultural heritage. Since its establishment, the forum has been successfully held for four sessions. The ruins of the ancient city of Liangzhu, the ruins of Shiqiao, the ruins of Southwest Tusi, the tomb of the Marquis of Haidu, and the ruins of Shijiahe in Chinese mainland have been selected as major field archaeological discoveries in the previous four World Archaeological Forums in Shanghai.

It is understood that the Sanxingdui site archaeological new discovery project was launched at the end of 2019, the site of the sacrificial area of the new discovery of 6 sacrificial pits, an area of 3.5-19 square meters, the age of 3200 to 3000 years ago, unearthed all kinds of cultural relics more than 17,000 pieces, including gold masks, twisted head kneeling bronze statues, turtle back grid shapes, copper masks, copper altars, copper beasts, sacred tree pattern jade, silk, ivory carvings, etc.

The Sanxingdui site archaeological new discovery project innovates the archaeology and protection work mechanism, adheres to the working concept of "subject preset, protection synchronization, multidisciplinary integration, and multi-unit cooperation", and carries out a comprehensive plan for the research topic before the excavation, and carries out the research in advance to the time of excavation, and simultaneously carries out cultural relics protection and on-site protection. The whole excavation work has achieved cross-field cooperation and multidisciplinary integration, 40 archaeological excavations, cultural relics protection, multidisciplinary research, digital services and other units have jointly tackled key problems, and nearly 200 scholars in archaeology, history, physics, chemistry, paleontology, palegeology, paleoenvironmental science and other related fields have participated in on-site excavation, scientific and technological archaeology and cultural relics protection to ensure the level of high-quality archaeological work.

At the recent Sanxingdui site archaeological multidisciplinary comprehensive research results seminar, Sichuan Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology Sanxingdui site workstation director Ran Honglin introduced that the follow-up field archaeological work will continue to explore the Sanxingdui site, the internal pattern of the ancient Shu capital, so as to gradually reveal the clothing, food, housing and transportation of the people living in the Sanxingdui site at that time. The specific details of production and life, as well as the system mode of production management, etc., allow everyone to fully understand the daily life of the ancient Shu people and the mode of national operation more than 3,000 years ago. In addition, it is necessary to further understand the ancient Shu civilization represented by the Sanxingdui site, and the civilization of the Central Plains, the civilization of the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River and the civilization of the Ganqing region, the specific situation of their interconnection and mutual communication, and then understand the deep-seated reasons why the Chinese civilization can present a pluralistic and colorful pattern.
