According to the news, one of Apple's iPhone 16 Pro prototypes uses a single punch-hole screen instead of a "dynamic island"
IT Home reported on November 12 that generally speaking, Apple's overall plan will be determined half a year before the release, that is, around March, but in fact, the start time of early development work is much earlier, and even Apple tends to lay out the supply chain years in advance, especially the display panel solution.
IT Home reminds that this early design is only for reference, and there is always the possibility of changes before the new machine is finally put into mass production.
Tipster Majin Bu revealed that Apple is currently testing a prototype version of the iPhone 16 Pro that includes a prototype with a single-hole design, instead of the "pill screen" + "Dynamic Island" used in the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 15 series, but this design may also be in preparation for the iPhone 17 Pro series in 2025.
Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consulting (DSCC), has also previously pointed out that while testing begins as early as 2022, don't expect under-display Face ID to appear on iPhones before 2025. According to his predictions:
Non-Pro Series iPhones:
2021: Bangs, LTPS
2022: Bangs, LTPS
2023: Pills, LTPS
2024: Pills, LTPS
2025: Pills, LTPO
2026: Pills, LTPO
2027: Under-display Face ID + punch, LTPO
The Pro series of iPhones all feature LTPO display technology:
2021: Bangs
2022: Pills
2023: Pills
2024: Pills
2025: Under-display Face ID + punch
2026: Under-display Face ID + punch
2027: Under-display Face ID + under-display camera
According to Ross Young, the biggest change next year will be that the display size of the Pro model will increase from 6.1 inches on the iPhone 15 Pro to 6.3 inches on the iPhone 16 Pro, while the Pro Max will increase from 6.7 inches to 6.9 inches.
He believes that Apple's iPhone will usher in major changes from the iPhone 17 generation in 2025, such as the screen size of non-Pro models will correspond to Pro models in that year, and the ProMotion 120Hz display will be introduced for the first time in non-Pro models in 2025.
