Scientists do not understand that the universe has created such huge objects: the existence of the oldest galaxies was proven

New data from the James Webb Space Telescope and spectroscopic studies prove that the oldest known galaxy in the universe is the Macy's Galaxy. Even after billions of years, it looks the same as it did after the Big Bang.

Map of the river

In the image, Macy's Galaxy appears as a red blob against a black background. At first glance, not impressive. However, the fact that they were able to capture it in principle last year is a scientific miracle in itself. Scientists at the University of Texas then said they saw the oldest galaxy ever observed. Subsequent studies confirmed this theory.

This galaxy has a place in the First Era catalog. Stephen Finkelstein, director of the Scientific Review of Evolution of the Universe, including the catalog, named the ancient Macy's galaxy after his daughter because the discovery occurred on her birthday. The survey of the evolution of the universe itself involves studying a hundred square arcs of the sky in order to subsequently compile the most detailed extragalactic map in history.

Star shifts

The Macy's Galaxy is the first galaxy to be confirmed by spectroscopy. Its full-color images were released last year. Messi's age was estimated using brightness-based photometry. This, in turn, is measured with a high-pass filter.

Due to James Webb's busy work schedule, the team waited a full year to make new observations using their special NIRSpec instrument. It analyzes redshifts perfectly. As the universe expands, light waves travel across light years and become longer. The higher the redshift, the farther the distance.

At the dawn of time

Last year, Messi's galaxy had a redshift of 11.8. It can be said that this galaxy was observed about 286 million years after the Big Bang. New observations suggest it becomes smaller – 11.4, which means younger. What does that mean? The Macy's galaxy emitted light 390 million light-years after the Big Bang.

For the era James Webb is now seeing, Macy's galaxy is teeming with life. Astronomers have not yet explained this fact. At the same time, the data obtained suggests that in ancient times, space was extremely densely populated. However, scientists have not yet been able to understand how the universe created such huge galaxies in such a short period of time.
