Science fiction writer Hai Ming's "The Painter of Time and Space" won the "Best Novella Award", becoming the third Chinese science fiction writer to win the Hugo Award after Liu Cixin and Hao Jingfang. The person who presented him with the award tonight was none other than Liu Cixin, who became the first Asian Hugo Award winner with "The Three-Body Problem". Combining history, reasoning and science fiction, it traces the creation of a fictional painting and the power struggle between the government and the opposition at that time. Because the novel does not completely ignore real history, it reads with a sense of trance that is both real and illusory, and it feels like this may happen in another parallel universe.
The reason why Haiyang wrote this story was because he saw the story behind the famous painting "A Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains" in the Song Dynasty. The regret caused by the untimely death of the author Wang Ximeng and the lack of relevant historical records have left enough room for the creator to develop.

He named the historical figure in the novel "Zhao Ximeng" and gave him the superpower to enter high-dimensional space-time in the form of pure energy. This kind of superpower, in the Song Dynasty where Zhao Ximeng lived, naturally no one could understand. He kept this secret and explained himself by suffering from some kind of "soul departure syndrome".
In order to create "Thousands of Miles of Rivers and Mountains", Zhao Ximeng separated the mind and body again and again, escaped into the high-dimensional space, and instantly regarded the mountains and rivers of the world as painting materials. Gradually, he found that he could not only break free from the shackles of space, but also break the boundaries of time. Ocean said the idea was inspired by the famous Chinese science fiction writer Ted Jiang's masterpiece "The Story of Your Life." "Most of Ted Jiang's novels are worth thinking about and remembering, and The Story of Your Life is one of my favorite science fiction short stories."
The Story of Your Life is a very rare science fiction novel with linguistics at its core. The author writes this story deeply and beautifully through superb narrative skills.
