As a processor mainly used in high-performance gamepads, AMD R9 6900HX adopts an improved version of 6nm process and Zen3+ architecture, 8 cores and 16 threads, main frequency 3.3GHz, turbo frequency 4.9GHz, power consumption of 45W, memory support up to DDR5 4800.
The above figure is the comparison of the main parameters of R74800, R9 5900X, R9 5900HX and R9 6900HX, it can be seen that R9 6900HX Although there is still some gap compared with the R9 5900X for desktops, but compared with several other CPUs for notebooks, the upgrade is still quite large, so the question is, the powerful R9 6900HX is used on Mingfan UM690S, how will it perform?
Before the performance test, let's take a look at the shape and structure of Mingfan UM690S. The volume of Mingfan UM690S looks a little larger than the general mini host, mainly in the thickness. The color is still traditional black, the top cover adopts a classic twill design with a silver-white brand logo, it looks relatively simple, compared to the previous UM773SE, the appearance style of this UM690S is significantly more low-key.
In addition to the power button and microphone hole, there is also 1 3.5mm audio port and 2 USB-C ports (respectively support USB4 and data transmission), the interface on the back is relatively rich, in addition to the power port and 2.5G network port, there are 4 USB3.2 Gen2 Type-A ports and 2 HDMI 2.1 ports, the rich number of interfaces can be connected to peripherals such as mice and keyboards, and multiple monitors can be connected to meet more use scenarios.
Although this UM690S is not equipped with a desktop stand, it has higher rubber feet, which makes the gap between the fuselage and the desktop larger.
In addition to the double inlet and double outlet on the shell, Mingfan UM690S also adopts a hollow bottom cover design, which can indeed improve the efficiency of air circulation, further enhance heat dissipation performance, and better reduce the temperature of memory and solid-state hard disk.
However, the base is not the biggest highlight of Mingfan UM690S in the improvement of heat dissipation, thanks to the larger body area, this mini host is installed side by side with 2 fans inside the fuselage, a total of 3 fans, compared to single fans, the wind power of dual fans is naturally stronger, avoiding the situation that many people worry about the high-performance mini host heat dissipation.
The one I am dismantling now is a 32GB+1TB configuration, and the memory still adopts a dual-channel solution, supporting up to 64GB DDR5 4800, and the factory is equipped with 2 16GB ADATA DDR5 4800 memory modules. There is only one SSD slot, equipped with a 1TB Kingston SSD, 1TB is definitely enough for the general office, but if you often download 4K movies, it may not be enough for a long time, you can choose the barebones system, and you can use 2TB or 4TB SSDs in one step.

SSD testing
Kingston, as a mainstream storage product manufacturer, is quite guaranteed in terms of brand strength and quality, and the actual capacity of this 1TB SSD equipped with Mingfan UM690S is 982GB after booting, which is within the normal range. Using CrystalDiskMark tests, the read speed was 4806.76MB/s and the write speed was 3941.93MB/s.
Because the results of different tools will be different, continue to use ATTO for speed measurement, you can see that the maximum write speed is 6.08GB/s and the maximum read speed is 6.30GB/s.
The maximum read speed detected with TxBENCH is 4566.370MB/s and the maximum write speed is 3984.259MB/s.
Although the results of several software tests are different, but the difference is not much, it can be seen that the read and write speed of this SSD is quite stable, which is enough for daily transmission and playing games.
Master Lu runs points
Master Lu, as a hardware score detection tool, has never been well recognized, but the results of running scores still have a certain reference. Mingfan UM690S uses Luda's overall score of 1175315 points, which is already comparable to some laptops that are thousands of years old.
In the individual running scores, the R9 6900HX scored 634898 points, the graphics card score was 117471 points, the memory score was 173910 points, and the hard disk score was 249036 points, all the data were quite good, especially the processor score was very high.

R9 6900HX single test
Using CPU-Z running scores, the single-processor execution thread is 650.1 points, and the multiprocessor execution thread is 6173.6 points.
In the PerformanceTest test, the CPU score exceeded 25,000 points, which is also a good result.
Cinebench test
Cinebench is a practical CPU and graphics card test system, and it is also a common software for testing computer performance. In the Cinebench R15 test, AMD Radeon(TM) Graphics transmitted 173.8 frames per second, CPU multi-core multi-score of 2125, single-core score of 241.
In the Cinebench R20 test, the CPU scored 5136 for multi-core and 606 for single-core.
In the Cinebench R23 test, the CPU scored 5136 for multi-core and 1547 for single-core.
AIDA64 oven test
AIDA64 is a relatively authoritative computer performance testing tool, in addition to testing the stability of the computer, it can also test memory, hard disk, etc.
Using AIDA64 to detect the memory of Mingfan UM690S, you can see that the read speed is 51454MB/s, the write speed is 55085MB/s, the copy speed is 50514, MB/s, and the latency is 91.3ns, which may be because the two memory slots are full, so the latency is slightly high, but the read write speed is still quite fast.
Continue to use AIDA64 for single baking, at the beginning the CPU power consumption can reach 65W, then gradually reduced, and then stabilized at 45W, the oven for 25 minutes, the temperature of the CPU is 78 °C, thanks to the super heat dissipation brought by the three fans, the temperature of the hard disk is only 46 °C, and the previously tested single-fan mini host is usually close to 60 °C.
In the process of using AIDA64 double baking, the CPU power consumption is also 65W at the beginning. After 20 minutes of continuous baking, the CPU power consumption stabilized at 45W, the temperature was 75°C, and the hard disk temperature was 47°C.
It can be seen from the test that Mingfan UM690S is relatively good at controlling the temperature, and the sound of the fan is slightly loud during operation, but it is within the acceptable range.
OCC test
OCCT is a veteran computer performance testing software, in addition to hardware scores, it can also detect stability, and the project is very comprehensive. The memory was tested using OCCT with a read speed of 47.80GB/s, a write speed of 51.86GB/s, and a latency of 109.64ns.
The read performance score is 1166.56 points, the write performance score is 778.49 points, and the comprehensive performance score is 905.16 points. Objectively speaking, now the memory iteration is very fast, if you simply compare performance, DDR5 4800 for notebooks and mini hosts actually has no particularly big advantages, but based on actual scenarios and prices, DDR5 4800's cost performance is still quite high.
Using OCC to benchmark the Mingfan UM690S, the SSE single-threaded and multi-threaded scores were 86.77 and 580.05, and the AVX single-threaded and multi-threaded scores were 168.48 and 1024.56, respectively, which is still advantageous compared to other CPUs.
In the stability test, which lasted more than 20 minutes, the maximum, minimum and average values of different core frequencies of the CPU can be shown in the figure below.
In terms of power consumption, the test results are basically the same as those of AIDA64, with a maximum power consumption of 65W, an average power consumption of 41.38W, and a stable power consumption of 45W.
During the oven process, the maximum temperature of the CPU is close to 80 °C, the lowest value is 47.38 °C, the average value is 75 °C, and the temperature of the hard disk is still within 50 °C.
Other test situations
Regarding office performance, you can refer to the PCMARK10 test, the comprehensive score is 6602 points, the common basic function score is 9504 points, the productivity score is 9508 points, the digital content creation score is 8644 points, and other sub-scores can be seen in the figure below.
Test game performance with 3D Mark 11. The 3DMark score is divided into three levels: E, P, and X, with X being the highest and E being the lowest. Mingfan UM690S score is X3246, this result is honestly a little beyond expectations, I didn't expect to be so high.
Because I don't usually play games much, I can't find the relevant resource pack to test it all of a sudden, so I used GamePP for a simulation, and at 2K resolution, the prediction of frames per second for some popular games is not bad.
From the comprehensive performance test, the overall performance of Mingfan UM690S is still quite excellent, both R9 6900HX high-performance processor, but also three fans brought by excellent heat dissipation, this configuration in practical applications to open more browsers, running OFFICE and other office software is completely fine, I use it to run Photoshop 2023, da Vinci 17 and other large software is also smooth. As for the game experience, different games have different requirements for configuration, so with the configuration of Mingfan UM690S, it is certainly impossible to achieve 100% stable operation of every game, but the vast majority of mainstream games are still no problem to play. It should be a good choice for people who don't like bulky desktops.
