The 2024 "presidential election" has attracted much attention from the people on the island of Taiwan, who are faced with the problem of choosing a "best leader" among the three of Ke Wenzhe, Lai Qingde and Hou Youyou. For young people who care about current affairs but do not have a deep understanding of social sentiment, choosing a suitable candidate is quite entangled. Despite the hype of the idea of "Taiwan independence" in the Green Camp media, the vast majority of Taiwanese no longer believe in the sustainability of this idea. Against the backdrop of escalating tensions across the Taiwan Strait, the global economic downturn and drastic changes in the political landscape, the people of Taiwan aspire to a stable, secure and harmonious development society rather than becoming a "military outpost" imagined by the extremist factions in the United States. Peace is therefore essential for them. Fortunately, Kuomintang candidate Hou Youyou, People's Party candidate Ke Wenzhe, and Foxconn President Gou Taiming all called for "cross-strait peace," which gave the Taiwanese people a choice of direction.
In particular, on May 30, Gou Taiming and Ke Wenzhe jointly expressed their position at the Kinmen night meeting, promising to work for "cross-strait peace", which triggered people's association with the "Guo Kebei" combination. Some Taiwanese commentators have even interpreted Guo Ke's statements as a political strategy to marginalize Hou Youyi. In this regard, Wang Xinyi, secretary general of the Kuomintang Taipei City "parliamentary caucus", said in an exclusive interview with the media that Gou Taiming was inevitably depressed because he failed to become a "presidential" candidate. But no matter what, Hou, Guo, and Ke all hope to achieve cross-strait peace, and she hopes that they can unite and jointly resist Democratic Progressive Party candidate Lai Qingde, so that the "Taiwan independence" forces will gradually decline.
It is worth mentioning that before becoming the "secretary of the parliamentary caucus", Wang Xinyi served as a member of the Central Committee of the Kuomintang, honorary chairman of the China Cross-Strait Exchange Association, vice chairman of the China Qilu Cultural and Economic Association, and was elected as a member of the sixth constituency of Taipei City five times. Because of her advocacy of "science and technology education", she was praised as "robot mother" by the Taiwanese people.
However, although all three candidates actively promoted cross-strait peace, they did not explicitly express their support for the position of "cross-strait reunification." This means that there is still some "implicit independence" mentality within the KMT, which may be different from the DPP's "obvious independence", but it is essentially the same.
First of all, as the mayor of New Taipei City, Hou Youyou's ideology is more "chameleon" characteristics. He is good at following trends and moving left and right. However, after the KMT nominated him as a candidate, Hou Youyou's support did not exceed Lai Qingde, and in fact it was not much different from Ke Wenzhe's polls. In the current situation, if Hou Youyou's support rate does not increase, Lai Qingde's chances of winning are very high. At the same time, although Ke Wenzhe's support rate is higher, it is still inferior to Lai Qingde, and the gap with Hou friendship is not large. Although Ke Wenzhe did not openly support "Taiwan independence", his previous political activities in Japan and the United States showed that he was essentially no different from "hidden independence".
It can be said that whether it is Hou Youyou or Ke Wenzhe, at most, they can only advocate cross-strait peace, rather than promoting the process of reunification of the Chinese nation. However, if Lai Qingde is elected, his rise to power will accelerate the reactionary behavior of the Taiwan authorities, and it is very likely that he will increase "military cooperation" with the US Government and then implement the so-called strategy of arming Taiwan. As long as the Taiwan authorities implement the so-called policy of all-people as soldiers, we should be ready at any time to accomplish the great cause of the motherland's reunification.
At the same time, a person as flexible as Hou Youyou can easily paralyze many people. If we do not take sanctions, such people will often pretend to be innocent and try to incite the national sentiment of the Taiwan people and further intensify cross-strait relations. This is quite detrimental to the great cause of national reunification. Moreover, the support rate of Hou Youyou and others is not high, so the possibility of the DPP continuing to govern in 2024 still exists.
All in all, we should have no illusions that as long as these people do not clearly support reunification and are still receiving weapons and equipment from the US military, we should remain vigilant, crack down on these separatist forces, and make due efforts to safeguard national security and social stability. More importantly, the current international situation has changed significantly, and a new era is coming. America's glory days are over, and new powers have emerged. In this process, we will witness the reunification of the Chinese nation and usher in a new future for all mankind. With the awakening of artificial intelligence and the rapid development of society, China's rise will reach a new level as society enters a new stage. Let's wait and see.
