October 8-14, 2023 is the 26th National Hypertension Day and the 29th Shanghai Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease Prevention and Treatment Publicity Week.
National High Blood Pressure Day
Hypertension is the most common chronic disease affecting people's health, and it is also one of the most important risk factors for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, and its initial symptoms often include headache, dizziness, palpitations, shortness of breath, insomnia, limb numbness, etc.
1. Diagnostic criteria for hypertension
In the absence of antihypertensive drugs, systolic blood pressure ≥ 140 mmHg and/or diastolic blood pressure ≥ 90 mmHg measured three times on the same day (usually 2 weeks apart) may be considered to be considered for the diagnosis of hypertension.
Second, the prevention and control of hypertension
01
All residents should have their blood pressure monitored regularly, and patients with hypertension should follow their doctor's advice, standardize treatment, and control blood pressure.
02
Stick to a healthy lifestyle. Healthy lifestyle interventions can effectively reduce blood pressure or directly reduce the risk of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Six steps of healthy lifestyle: limit salt and lose weight, exercise more, quit smoking and alcohol.
03
Treatment strategies include a healthy lifestyle and medication.
Patients with hypertension who cannot meet the goal of lifestyle intervention alone should receive antihypertensive drugs.
Third, the misunderstanding of hypertension
Myth 1: Usually there is no discomfort and no need to measure blood pressure
There is no discomfort, there may be high blood pressure, and measuring your blood pressure regularly can help you understand your health.
Symptoms of high blood pressure vary from person to person. As long as the blood pressure is higher than normal, some patients will have dizziness, headache and other uncomfortable symptoms; A small percentage of patients have higher than normal blood pressure without any discomfort.
Myth 2: If you find high blood pressure, you have to take a lifetime of medicine
For patients with initial onset of hypertension below grade 1 or mildly increased, blood pressure can be controlled by diet and exercise. For patients with hypertension above grade 2 and 3, antihypertensive drugs must be taken under the guidance of a doctor.
Myth 3: After taking the drug, the blood pressure is stable and the drug can be stopped
Patients with hypertension should adhere to long-term medication, and should not stop or reduce drugs without authorization.
The drop in blood pressure to normal after medication does not mean that high blood pressure is cured, but that antihypertensive drugs have worked. At this time, stop or reduce the drug, and it will not be long before the blood pressure will rebound and recover or even exceed the previous level.
4. Management of hypertension
Mainland China has incorporated the health management of hypertensive patients into basic public health services to provide long-term follow-up management for hypertensive patients.
Baoshan District actively carries out the construction of community chronic disease health management support center, provides residents with accurate and standardized measurement of blood pressure, blood sugar, height, weight and other items, provides health management services such as risk assessment, disease screening, monitoring and follow-up, comprehensive intervention and health education for chronic diseases such as hypertension, and actively promotes the transformation of grassroots health concepts and service methods from "treatment-centered" to "health-centered".
