Longmen Grottoes
Located in Luoyang City, Henan Province, it is the world's largest treasure trove of stone carving art, and has been rated by UNESCO as the "highest peak of Chinese stone carving art", ranking first among China's major grottoes. Now it is a world cultural heritage, a national key cultural relic protection unit, and a national AAAAA-level tourist scenic spot.
The dragon gate was excavated by Dayu Zhishui and the legend of the fish leaping gate also took place here. Its grottoes were first excavated during the reign of Emperor Xiaowen of Northern Wei, flourished in the Tang Dynasty, and finally ended in the late Qing Dynasty. It has been built for more than 1,400 years by more than 10 dynasties, making it one of the longest grottoes in the world.
Most of the Longmen Grottoes were built by royal nobles and are the only royal grottoes in the world. The main ones are the Lushena Buddha carved by Wu Zetian according to his own appearance, Emperor Xiaowen chiseled Guyang Cave for Empress Dowager Feng, Lanling Wang Sun Yuwan Buddha Cave statue, Li Tai built Binyang South Cave for Empress Changsun, Wei Guifei chiseled Jingshan Temple, and Colix built Amitayus Buddha for Tang Xuanzong. After experiencing the cave statues opened by foreigners such as Tianzhu, Silla, Tocharian and Kangguo, it was found that there were European patterns and ancient Greek stone pillars, which can be called the world's most international grottoes.
Longmen Grottoes have made cave art show a trend of sinicization, and are a "milestone" of Chinese cave art, which has been influenced by countries such as the Tian Tan Buddha in Hong Kong, and even as far as East Asia, Korea, South Korea, Japan and other countries, such as Nara-Todaiji Temple in Japan and South Korea Grotto-an.
