Chang'an chaos: two stinky chess, a disaster

After getting rid of the rebel thief Dong Zhuo, Wang Yun and Lü Bu became the heroes of the imperial court, and naturally they wanted to be rewarded for their merits.

Wang Yun was already a Situ, and he was already exercising the power of the prime minister, and it was difficult to rise further, so he also took on the position of "record shangshu", which was equivalent to managing the confidential work of the inner court on the basis of overseeing the foreign dynasty, which was almost regarded as power inside and outside.

Lü Bu even won a lot of money, not only was he promoted to the general of Fenwei and made Marquis of Wen, but he was also given the special treatment of "false festival and Yibi three divisions", and "shared the imperial government" with Wang Yun, becoming the number two figure in the imperial court.

By the way, the meaning of "false festival" is to hold the emperor's scepter, representing the emperor's personal presence and having the right to kill, similar to the Shangfang sword that often appeared on the stage of later dramas. "Yibi Sansi" means that he is not appointed as the third duke and enjoys the same courtesy and treatment as the third duke.

On the surface, Wang Yun and Lü Bu jointly assisted Liu Xie, which seemed to bring hope to the Han court for the rest of their lives. If the two can work together and sincerely, there is still a chance to create a relatively stable political situation in Guanzhong.

However, many people can achieve "common suffering", but it is often difficult to achieve "common prosperity". Because the latter is more human than the former. When Wang Yun and Lü Bu faced the same enemy, Dong Zhuo, they would inevitably think in one place and work hard in one place for the common good; But as soon as Dong Zhuo died, the common interest base disappeared, and they would inevitably have differences and contradictions due to changes in interest demands.

The first disagreement was how to deal with those fierce generals under Dong Zhuo, such as Niu Fu, Li Wei, Guo Qiang, Zhang Ji and others. Lü Bu's opinion is to cut the grass and remove the roots, and never suffer from future troubles. But Wang Yun disagreed, he believed that these people were not guilty and should not be killed.

The second disagreement was how to deal with the huge wealth left by Dong Zhuo. Lü Bu proposed that the money should be divided, and everyone should have a share in all the ministers and generals in the army. But Wang Yun refused again, this time he didn't even give a reason, anyway, it just didn't work.

It should be said that it is normal for Wang Yun and Lv Bu to have differences due to their different identities and positions, and there is no strict question of right and wrong. Moreover, it does not matter if there are differences, everyone can sit down and discuss slowly, and always find a way to take into account the overall situation and serve the interests of the majority.

Unfortunately, the two of them did not do this.

The main reason is that both of them regard themselves as the first meritorious ministers who killed Dong Zhuo. Especially Wang Yun, after Dong Zhuo's death, he became the number one person in the imperial court, and single-handedly controlled the power of life and death that once belonged to Dong Zhuo. Therefore, just as Dong Zhuo could kill Zhang Wen casually, once Wang Yun got up, he could also kill people at will.

For example, Cai Yong, a generation of famous scholars, died at the hands of Wang Yun at this time.

The incident originated on the day Dong Zhuo was killed. That day, Cai Yong was a guest at Wang Yun's mansion, and the guest and host were sitting and chatting, and then the news came that Dong Zhuo was dead. Cai Yong was stunned and sighed subconsciously. It was this sigh that caused him to kill. Wang Yun's face changed on the spot, and he said angrily: "Dong Zhuo is a great thief of the country, and he almost overturned the Han family, as a great Han courtier, you should be as evil as a hatred, but you care about the little personal favor he gave you, but you grieve for him, aren't you also a rebel thief!"

After that, he arrested Cai Yong and threw him into prison.

In good conscience, Cai Yong's exclamation is purely a natural reaction of people when they suddenly encounter an accident, but Wang Yun went online and made a malicious interpretation, which is quite a bit of "if you want to add to the crime, why not have a word".

Cai Yong also knew that his sigh was quite inappropriate, so he voluntarily confessed his guilt in prison, willing to bear the punishment of "tattooing his head and feet" (tattooing his forehead and cutting off his feet), only asking Wang Yun to leave his life and let him complete the history of the Han Dynasty, which he began writing a few years ago. The imperial doctors also interceded for him, and Ma Ripeng, who was the imperial lieutenant at the time, personally went to Wang Yun and said: "Cai Yong is a genius of the world, familiar with my dynasty, if he can complete this history book, he will become a generation of great classics, but his crime is insignificant, killing him, won't it disappoint the world?" ”

Wang Yun was unmoved, and said coldly: "In the past, Emperor Wu did not kill Sima Qian, so that Sima Qian wrote a slander to spread to future generations. Today, when the kingdom is in decline and wars are still frequent, if we let the courtiers write history around the young lord, it will not only not benefit the lord's holiness, but will also expose us people to vain criticism and slander. ”

Ma Ripeng was helpless, and after going out, he looked up to the sky and sighed, cursing Wang Yun for cutting off his sons and grandchildren.

Soon after, Cai Yong died in prison.

It is enough to see from this incident that Wang Yun, who holds great power, has the potential to become Dong Zhuo's second, but he kills people in a gentler way than Dong Zhuo.

Even a generation of famous men Cai Yong, Wang Yun did not put it in his eyes, let alone a wufu Lü Bu?

According to the history books, Wang Yun originally regarded Lü Bu as a "swordsman" - a swordsman at best, and a wufu at a difficult point. Previously, the reason why he showed the appearance of a "broken corporal" and asked Lu Bu for warmth was nothing more than the need for "revolutionary work". Now that there is no need for this, the big leader's shelf must be put up, and he naturally has a businesslike attitude towards Lu Bu.

And Lü Bu, as the person who personally killed Dong Zhuo, naturally thinks that he has the greatest credit, plus his character is already more arrogant and conceited, and now he is even more cowhide and eyes above the top, both proposals were rejected by Wang Yun, naturally he was unhappy.

Therefore, Lü Bu decided to throw off Wang Yun and take matters into his own hands to deal with Niu Fu's gang.

At this moment, Lu Bu definitely did not expect that his move would lead to a monstrous disaster.

He ordered his henchman Li Su to go to Shaanxi County, claiming that there was an edict from the Son of Heaven to kill Niu Fu. Of course, Niu Fu would not wait for death, so he beat Li Su to a great defeat and fled. Lü Bu was furious and beheaded Li Su.

Although Niu Fu won the battle, he had no idea what to do next. When he was worried and uneasy, one night there was another riot in the barracks, and Niu Fu was so frightened that he fled with a few of his own soldiers overnight. But before he could run far, his cronies on the left and right cut off his head and went to Chang'an to ask for merit.

Niu Fu's generals Li Wei, Guo Qian and others were previously sent to Zhongmu to attack Zhu Yan, and by the way, they ransacked the people in the area of Chen Liu and Yingchuan, and now returned to Shaanxi County, only to learn that the big boss Dong Zhuo and his boss Niu Fu had died, and suddenly the six gods were masterless. There was no way, so I had to send someone to Chang'an and ask the imperial court for pardon.

Faced with the request of this gang of fierce generals, Wang Yun only gave a cold reply: "The imperial court has already pardoned this year, and it cannot be pardoned again." "What kind of shit is this?!

Li Wei, Guo Xiao and others were dumbfounded: According to this meaning, how many of us brothers have to straighten their necks and wait for the knife?

I have to say that on the issue of treating Dong Zhuo's old ministry, Lü Bu and Wang Yun both made a stinky move and made unforgivable mistakes. Lü Bu was brave and unscrupulous, acting without authorization, only thinking about killing, and did not consider follow-up coping strategies at all. And Wang Yun, as the civil official leader and the head of the imperial court at this time, showed no brains in this matter, and had no political skills at all - instead of trying to appease the uneasy feelings of Li Wei and others, he was intensifying the contradiction, which was equivalent to providing them with a reason to break the net.

If you want to kill them, you can transfer them back to the middle of the dynasty first, come to a bright and dark descent, seize their military power, and then start; And if you don't want to kill them, then just pardon them and let them live, why find a ridiculous reason that "one year old can no longer be pardoned" to force them to rebel?

Therefore, the main responsibility for the calamity that will break out immediately next lies with Wang Yun, and the secondary responsibility lies with Lü Bu. To put it bluntly, this is all their own self-seeking.

Of course, although Wang Yun and Lü Bu lit the fuse, if someone had not added another fire at a critical moment, the powder keg would not have exploded.

The person who fanned the flames at the critical moment was Jia Xu.

Jia Xu, character Wenhe, was a native of Guzang County, Wuwei County (present-day Wuwei, Gansu), born in filial piety, and his ancestor was Jia Yi, a famous minister in the early Han Dynasty. Jia Xu later became a famous adviser under Cao Cao's account, and was known as "full of ingenuity and calculation", but at the moment on Dong Zhuo's side, he was still only a district captain.

Just as Li Wei, Guo Xiao, and the others were panicking, preparing to eat a meal and then go back to their hometowns, Jia Xu spoke, saying, "If you disband your people and act alone, a small pavilion chief can capture you alive." Now, it is better to lead the brethren to the west into Guanzhong, kill Chang'an, and avenge Dong Taishi. If great things are accomplished, they will serve the country as the right in the world; If it doesn't work, it's never too late to disperse. ”

When Li Wei, Guo Qiang, and others heard this, they suddenly became enlightened, so they pulled up camp overnight and led the troops to the west. When they set out, there were originally only a few thousand people, but under the banner of avenging Dong Zhuo, they continued to gather people and horses along the way, and gathered the Western Liang troops such as Fan Chou and Li Meng who were originally stationed in various places, and by the time the troops arrived in Chang'an, they were already an army of more than 100,000 people.

However, the Chang'an city wall was tall and strong, and Li Wei and others came in a hurry, and before they had time to prepare siege equipment, they could not attack the city, and could only besiege the Chang'an regiment. It was besieged for eight days, and on the ninth day, Lü Bu's men rebelled and opened the city gates, and Li Bu's army poured in like a tide and began to plunder.

Lü Bu led his troops and the Western Liang army to fight in the city, but they were outnumbered, and they could only fight to the death to break through the siege, and only fled from Qingzou Gate with hundreds of horses. Before leaving, Lü Bu showed a rare righteousness and ordered people to find Wang Yun and tell him to flee together. But Wang Yun knew that once he left the young lord Liu Xie and left this exiled court, he would be nothing—no matter how big the world was, it would be difficult to have a place for him. So, he refused.

As soon as Lü Bu fled, the huge Chang'an City would have no decent resistance. The Liangzhou Corps was originally an arrogant and fierce general with loose military discipline, and at this moment, it was like entering no man's land, launching indiscriminate attacks on the officials and people of Chang'an. Many ministers, such as Tai Chang Chong Fu, Tai Servant Lu Xu, Dahong Xu Zhou Huan, Captain Cui Lie of the City Gate, and Wang Qi of the Yue Cavalry Captain, were all killed in the melee. In just half a day, more than 10,000 officials and people died, the city was a mess, and corpses were piled up on the roads.

Wang Yun helped Liu Xie to hide on the city tower of Xuanping Gate. Li Wei and others led troops to chase them, but they did not dare to make a second attempt, so they could only dismount and bow down and bow down. Liu Xie is only eleven years old this year, which is equivalent to the current fifth grade of primary school, but he is already a little adult who has experienced vicissitudes and is accustomed to bloody storms. He calmly asked Li Wei and the others: "Qing and others let go of the troops, what do you want?" ”

Li Wei replied: "Dong Zhuo is loyal to His Majesty, but he was killed by Lü Bu for no reason, and the ministers and others avenge Dong Zhuo and dare not rebel." Only when the major matter is over, the ministers and others voluntarily receive punishment. ”

To put it nicely, in fact, Liu Xie and Wang Yun are now fish on their chopping board.

Immediately afterwards, Li Wei and the others surrounded the city tower and demanded that Wang Yun be handed over. Wang Yun, who was desperate, could only obediently go downstairs and be captured.

The next day, Li Wei proclaimed himself the general of Yangwu, Guo Xian as the general of Yanglie, and Fan Chou and others as lieutenant generals. On the same day, Huang Wan, a lieutenant who participated in the assassination of Dong Zhuo, was arrested and imprisoned, and executed immediately.

At that time, there were actually two soldiers and horses loyal to the imperial court on the outskirts of Chang'an: Zuo Feng Yi (southwest of present-day Gaoling, Shaanxi) Taishou Song Yi, and Right Fufeng (southeast of present-day Xingping, Shaanxi) Taishou Wang Hong. Both were appointed by Wang Yun and were both fellow villagers of Wang Yun. Li Wei feared that killing Wang Yun would force them to rebel, so he issued an edict in the name of the imperial court and summoned them back to Beijing.

Wang Hong expected that this departure would undoubtedly die, so he advised Song Yi not to obey the edict and simply set up an army to fight. But Song Yi was a pedantic and confused bastard, knowing that the little emperor had been kidnapped by Li Wei and others, and the so-called edict was simply a piece of waste paper, but he rejected Wang Hong's proposal on the grounds that "the king's life is difficult to violate". And although this Wang Hong's IQ is slightly higher than Song Yi, it is only a little higher, listening to him say this, he did not object anymore, and obediently returned to Chang'an with him.

As soon as the two arrived, Li Wei's only concern was eliminated, so he beheaded Wang Yun and the two mentally handicapped fellow villagers and Wang Yun's wife and children on the same day.

After Wang Yun's death, the body was thrown in the busy city, and no one dared to bury it. One of his old subordinates, Zhao Jian of Pingling (平陵, in present-day Xianyang, Shaanxi) County, was unbearable, so he resigned his official post and collected his body in his personal capacity, so that Wang Yun could enter the soil for peace.

At this point, Chang'an has completely become the world of Li Wei, Guo Xiao and others.

Poor Emperor Liu Xie, who had just got rid of Dong Zhuo's clutches, fell into the hands of this group of warlords in a blink of an eye.

Although Dong Zhuo was a tyrannical and unscrupulous courtier, after all, he had been educated by the imperial court for many years, and he still had a bottom line, and he generally respected Shi Dafu and famous men at that time (such as Wang Yun and Cai Yong), so he could keep the exiled imperial court running normally, and the people could basically live. However, his subordinates Li Wei, Guo Qian and others were almost a group of vicious bandits, saying that they were warlords and might even lift them. Liu Xie and the imperial court fell into the hands of this gang of unscrupulous hooligans, and the situation was naturally even more unbearable - in the days that followed, the imperial court's decrees and discipline were completely abolished, various functions were paralyzed, the entire social order of Chang'an was wiped out, and the common people died under the double blow of military disasters and natural disasters...

Wang Yun and Lü Bu's two brainless chess moves were certainly the main cause of this disaster, and Jia Xu, who made Li Wei and others change their minds in just a few words, was not one of the culprits that caused the disaster.
