Heron is a medium-altitude long-endurance UAV developed by a subsidiary of the Israeli aircraft industry company Marat. It is mainly used for tasks such as real-time surveillance, electronic reconnaissance and jamming, communications relay, and maritime patrol.

The Heron UAV began to be developed at the end of 1993, first flew in October 1994, and was officially put into service at the end of 1996. Among them, India is a large customer of the Heron UAV, which has been purchased by the army, navy and air force, and the Air Force alone has purchased 50 units.
In February 2014, Israel introduced an improved version of the Heron drone, the Super Heron, with a more powerful diesel engine and upgraded onboard equipment.
"Heron" showed good situational awareness in real combat. During Operation Cast Lead in Gaza in 2008-2009, each Israeli brigade combat group was assigned a squadron of drones for close support, mainly Heron and Helmers 450 UAVs.
