The algorithm used on this maiden flight was developed by AFRL's "Autonomous Air Combat Team" and took millions of hours to mature after high-fidelity simulations, X-62 VISTA test flights, XQ-58A work, and ground test operations. The test flight made it possible for AI and machine learning to act on human capabilities, and the applied air-to-air and air-to-ground skills could also be applied to the Cooperative Combat Aircraft (CCA) program.
