Zhou Xuan, formerly known as Su Pu, was born on August 1, 1920 in Wujin County, Jiangsu Province to an intellectual family. His father, Su Jiaofu, graduated from Jinling University and worked as a priest and teacher successively, and was quite famous in Changzhou City; Her mother, Gu Meizhen, graduated from Jinling Women's University. When he was young, Zhou Xuan was abducted and sold by his opium-smoking uncle to the Wang family in Jintan County, and changed his name to Wang Xiaohong. After the Wang couple divorced, Zhou Xuan was given to a family surnamed Zhou in Shanghai and renamed Zhou Xiaohong.
In 1928, due to the decline of the Zhou family, Zhou Xuan was sold to a brothel, but was rescued by his adoptive mother and survived. In elementary school, Zhou Xuan showed an artistic talent for singing and dancing, and his singing performance was always the first, and he often played the protagonist of the program, starring in the programs "Su Wu Muyang", "Sparrow and Child", "Poor Autumn Fragrance" and so on.
In 1931, Zhou Xiaohong joined the Ming Yue Song and Dance Troupe (also known as Lianhua Song and Dance Class) founded by Li Jinhui. In a performance, Zhou Xiaohong sang the song "Light of the Nation" with the lyrics of "Dealing with the enemy on the battlefield", which was warmly appreciated by the audience, so Li Jinhui suggested that she change her name to Zhou Xuan, but the girl's family can't always fight and kill on the battlefield, so she added a jade character next to it and became a piece of beautiful jade.
Yan Hua is Zhou Xuan's senior brother in the troupe, whenever Zhou Xuan is wronged, Yan Hua is always the first to stand up to protect her and accompany her, so the two of them come and go in the long-term companionship to rub the spark of love.
At the beginning of 1934, under the recommendation of Yan Hua, Zhou Xuan entered the Xinhua Opera Society, and after participating in many performances organized by the Xinhua Opera Society, Zhou Xuan began to attract attention from the outside world, and Shanghai's "Youlian", "Xinxin", "Blue Bird" and other radio stations often invited her to sing, EMI and Victory Records also made records of many songs such as "The Wind in May" and "Ding" sung. These songs were well received by the public through radio broadcasts and record sales, and in the same year, Zhou Xuan ranked second in the singer competition jointly organized by various radio stations in Shanghai, and won the title of "Golden Voice", in addition to Gong Qiuxia, Bai Guang, Li Xianglan, Yao Li, Bai Hong, Wu Yingyin and other than the seven stars of Shanghai.
In May 1935, Zhou Xuan participated in the filming of the movie "Children of the Wind and Clouds", performing a pas de deux as a dancer, which was her first screen appearance. Later, she made a guest appearance in the movie "Beauty En" to perform song and dance. In the same year, Zhou Xuan joined the Shanghai Opera Society and became the first pillar in the society. Soon, Zhou Xuan appeared on the cover of the second issue of "Singer Pictorial" and published the article "Autumn Morning", expressing the unique feelings of a young girl. At the end of 1935, Zhou Xuan filmed "The Night of the Flower Candle", playing the female number two Caiyun, which was her first role to have a name. In 1936, Zhou Xuan starred in several commercial films such as "Incarnate Girl", and since then Zhou Xuan has continued to film.
In the fall of 1936, Zhou Xuan and Yan Hua were officially engaged, and the two went to the gold shop together to create a pair of rings and engraved their names on them.
On July 10, 1938, Zhou Xuan and Yan Hua held a wedding at the Spring Garden Hotel in Beiping.

In 1949, Zhou Xuan and silk merchant Zhu Huaide lived together in Hong Kong.
But the good times did not last long after Zhu Huaide got a large amount of assets from Zhou Xuan, he ran away, but Zhou Xuan was pregnant at that time, so Zhou Xuan returned to Shanghai with his pregnancy and found Zhu Huaide, hoping that he could stay for the sake of the child, but all he got was Zhu Huaide's words: I'm afraid this child was picked up like you!
So in 1950, Zhou Xuan published a statement in the newspaper and broke off the cohabitation relationship with Zhu Huaide.

In May 1952, Zhou Xuan was about to marry art teacher Tang Di, but Tang Di was sentenced to three years in prison by the Jing'an District People's Court on charges of fraud and seduction.
At 20:55 on September 22, 1957, Zhou Xuan died of encephalitis in the First Affiliated Hospital of Shanghai First Medical College, ending a short life of 37 years.
