Last semester, Tian Rong had just returned to the County Street Primary School after completing her one-year volunteer teaching work in Ebian Yi Autonomous County. In the new semester, she will take on the task of teaching first-grade mathematics at County Street Elementary School.
In August 2022, Tian Rong, as a backbone teacher at the municipal level, took the initiative to sign up, hoping to teach in Ebian Yi Autonomous County. At the time, her colleagues did not understand her choice, and her family was worried about it. But as a teacher, she hopes to contribute to the education of Yi District.
As soon as she arrived in Ebian Yi Autonomous County, Tian Rong threw herself into intense work, with a total of 100 Yi children in the two classes she taught. At first, Tian Rong's communication with the students was not smooth, because they usually communicate with their families in Yi, and the difficulty of teaching can be imagined. "I slowed down my speech and communicated with my classmates in the classroom after class, and after about a month we would have no problem communicating with each other." Tian Rong said.
Due to the large number of students and weak teachers at Shaping Primary School in Ebian Yi Autonomous County, where Tian Rong taught, Tian Rong had to teach mathematics in two classes, while also taking science classes and social practice classes, with a total of 20 lessons a week. "I have two classes, 100 children, and I have to correct three or four hundred homework every day, which is really a lot of work." Tian Rong told reporters. Even though the workload was heavy, Tian Rong still felt tired and happy.
The school where Tian Rong supports is located on the 306 provincial road, and there are many large trucks transporting ore in normal times, and there are great safety hazards during and after school. Children in Yi District basically go to and from school by themselves from the first grade, and parents rarely pick them up. So Tian Rong, who lives at school, gets up early every day, puts on traffic clothes, and takes the children to school from the bus stop.
After school, Teacher Tian will also go to the homes of the left-behind children and talk with their guardians to understand the learning and living conditions of the left-behind children. Tian Rong's love and dedication were seen by the children, and they also responded in the most simple way. "One day I found that I had a lot of wild peaches on my podium, and although the peaches were not yet ripe, they all thought about the teacher in their hearts, and I was very touched."
