In 2022, fire and rescue departments across the country reported a total of 18,000 electric bicycle (electric moped) fires, an increase of 23.4% over 2021; A total of 3,242 fires caused by battery failure in residential premises were reported, an increase of 17.3% over 2021.
Fire analysis of fire rescue departments in various places shows that a large number of electric bicycle fires occur during battery charging.
The fire investigation engineer told reporters that at present, many consumers often charge overnight, and the charging time often exceeds eight hours, and the safety hazard is very large.
In recent years, electric bicycle lithium battery explosion and fire incidents are endless, consumers mostly regard lithium batteries as the culprit of fire or explosion, but fire engineers revealed that many electric bicycle fires hide another safety threatening accessories, that is, electric bicycle chargers.
In 2020, the Yangtze River Delta product quality and safety linkage supervision spot check found that the unqualified rate of electric bicycle chargers reached 20.9%; In 2021, the failure rate of Shanghai electric bicycle charger supervision spot check also reached 20%.
The State Administration for Market Regulation conducted the first national supervision and spot check on electric bicycle chargers in 2022, and the latest statistics from the testing agency showed that the failure rate was as high as 42.4%.
The reporter learned that overcharge cut-off is also called overcharge protection, which means that after the electric bicycle battery is fully charged, the charger will automatically power off to avoid the danger of overcharging, and the same important thing as overcharge cut-off is the overtemperature protection function, and cutting off the power supply when the charging ambient temperature is too high also to avoid the danger of overheating the charger.
In the testing institution, the reporter followed the inspectors and randomly selected some electric bicycle chargers to start further overcharge cut-off and over-temperature protection function tests, and found that there were few electric bicycle chargers with overcharge cut-off function.
The inspector told reporters that the lack of over-temperature protection function is more affecting the charger itself, long-term work at high temperature will lead to the aging of the charger's components, easy to cause short circuit, causing fire. The lack of overcharge cut-off function affects the battery more.
At present, the electric bicycle batteries on the market are not all high-end products, among the market products, some batteries have been modified, some are second-hand batteries, and do not have the battery management system that a safety battery should have, that is, there is no overcharge protection function.
In the case that the charger also does not have the function of overcharge cut-off, the risk factor during charging will be multiplied, and a large number of tests in the past have shown that lead-acid battery overcharge will appear bulging, leakage, lithium battery in the lack of protection overcharge is easy to explode, fire risk.
Regarding the electrical safety standards of electric bicycle chargers, there are national recommended standards, industry standards, group standards, enterprise standards, etc., involving as many as five or six, there is only one national recommended standard with safety requirements such as overcharging and power off, and other standards have no similar requirements at all.
At present, there are about 120 domestic electric bicycle charger manufacturers, but there are very few enterprises that implement national recommended standards.

From the above news materials, it can be predicted that most electric vehicle chargers on the market do not have the "anti-overcharge" function, so it is very important to charge electric vehicles away from your residence!
Yunyi charging intelligent charging pile, full of self-stop protection, overvoltage protection, overload protection, overcurrent protection, short circuit protection and other multiple safety protection measures, users can use mobile phone scanning code to charge, to meet the parking and charging needs of residents' electric bicycles, while standardizing the management of electric bicycles in the community, creating a safe and orderly living environment for residents.
