With the rapid development of the Internet and communication technology, the modus operandi of telecom network fraud is constantly being renewed.

Recently, fraudsters have taken advantage of some users' ignorance of Alipay and WeChat Pay's "million protection", claiming that the protection function has expired and needs to be cancelled or renewed, otherwise it will affect credit reporting, so as to trick victims into transferring money and committing fraud.

What is Million Guarantee?

"Million Guarantee" means that during the use of WeChat Pay account and Alipay account, if the payment account is stolen by others and the funds are lost, they can apply for compensation.

This guarantee is free to activate by default and does not require users to pay anything! Taking WeChat as an example, users can view their WeChat Pay "million guarantee" function in WeChat-Me-Service-Wallet-Consumer Protection-Security Guarantee. This function will not "expire" or "expire", will not require "payment renewal", and will not affect credit reporting.

New scams of "Million Guarantee" are emerging

However, recently, new scams of "Million Guarantee" have emerged one after another, and many people have been recruited.

For example, some fraudsters obtain victim information through illegal channels and call, falsely claiming that they are "customer service" such as WeChat, Alipay, and banks, saying that they have opened or mistakenly purchased the "Million Protection" service and need to cancel or need to renew the insurance when it has expired, otherwise it will affect credit reporting, etc., and guide them to view the "Million Protection" page.

The scammer also asked the victim to transfer money to the designated account on the grounds of "account verification, identity verification", etc., promising that after the operation is completed, the system will close the "million protection" business, and the "verification money" will be automatically returned to the original payment account. During this period, the scammer will ask the victim to download a "video conference" app and guide the victim to follow his instructions through voice calls and mobile phone screen sharing.

Scammers also use "video conferencing" software to steal information such as victims' bank card numbers and SMS verification codes through screen sharing, transfer the funds in the cards, or deceive victims into transferring verification codes through words, or trick them into taking out loans on online loan platforms and steal them.

Recently, many examples have been exposed, for example, the official Weiwei of the Hantai District People's Court in Hanzhong City, Shaanxi Province, announced on September 5 that recently, victim A received a call from a self-proclaimed Tencent staff, saying that his WeChat "million guarantee business" expired, and if it is not closed, it will automatically deduct 2,000 yuan next month, which will also affect credit reporting. So under the inducement of the other party, A downloaded a conference software, and the other party asked to share the screen to unbind the account, and asked him to check the balance of his bank card and WeChat and Alipay, and then transferred all the money to the other party's designated account, claiming that the money would be returned later. A was found to have been defrauded after several transfers, and lost a total of more than 120,000 yuan.

Police tip: "Million Protection" does not need to be closed

"Million Guarantee" is an automatically turned on security setting, which is completely free and does not affect personal credit.

The police remind that if you receive an unfamiliar call, no matter what the reason, as long as you mention turning off the "million protection" function of WeChat and Alipay, it must be a fraud! If you find that you have been deceived, retain evidence in time and report the case to the public security organ as soon as possible.

In addition, identity information, bank accounts, verification codes, and all kinds of passwords should be carefully kept and never disclosed. Biometric information involving your face, fingerprints, iris and other biometric information should not be leaked.

If the other party requests to add a private social account or share videos and other assistance operations to various video conferencing software, you must decisively refuse!

In addition, criminals will also replace "WeChat Million Protection" with "Million Insurance" and "Million Medical Insurance" to commit fraud, and their fraud methods are the same as the "Million Protection" scam, which should also be vigilant.
