iQOO Z8 review: 120W led by the all-round thousand-dollar machine

As a series of iQOO's all-round thousand-yuan performance machines, iQOO Z series has always been committed to popularizing the leapfrog experience to mass users. The previous generation of iQOO Z7 brought 120W ultra-fast flash charging and 5000mAh large battery to the 1,500 price segment mobile phone, and the newly released iQOO Z8 is based on the previous generation, bringing a carefully tuned Dimensity 8200, 50mm gold portrait focal length and up to 12GB + 512B large storage combination, once again bringing a conscientious affordable and all-round combination to price segment users.

There has always been a saying on the Internet, called "Dimensity Tuning to See the Blue Factory", which shows that the Vivo department's adjustment of Dimensity has formed an excellent reputation over the years. Therefore, on the iQOO Z8, the "full blood performance audio-triangle" composed of Dimensity 8200+ full blood version LPDDR5 + full blood version UFS 3.1, with a 3002mm² large-area VC vapor chamber, can naturally give full play to the performance of the hardware. In particular, this iQOO Z8 in our hands is still a top-equipped version of 12GB+512GB, which is also relatively rare in its class.

According to the convention, we tested 5 projects of Antutu, Geekbench 5, 3DMark, Bilibili and Genshin, the test environment was a constant indoor 30°C, and the Monster mode of the mobile phone was turned on. It should be noted that since the iQOO Z8 adopts a dual-cell design, the actual power consumption is equal to the test result x2.

In the AnTuTu V10, the iQOO Z8 running score can easily reach 950,000 points, which is the highest running score among products in the same class.

In Geekbench5, which tests CPU performance, iQOO Z8's single-core and multi-core scores are 1054 and 4235 points, respectively, although there is still a gap with the flagship model, but the performance is relatively sufficient.

In terms of Geekbench5 power consumption, iQOO Z8 has a single-core power consumption of 3.746W and a multi-core power consumption of 7.284W, which is relatively high.

In the 3DMark Wild Life Extreme test that tested the GPU, the iQOO Z8 provided an average frame rate of 1772 points and 10.6 frames, and it can be seen that the gap with the flagship SoC is basically about 1 times, which is also the simplest and crude way for SoC manufacturers to distinguish between flagship and non-flagship SoCs.

At this time, the power consumption of iQOO Z8 has reached 7.592W, which is high for a frame rate of about 10 frames, which will also make iQOO Z8 perform poorly in the face of some games that eat GPU rendering capabilities.

Finally, in order to verify the heat dissipation performance of iQOO Z8, the stability of iQOO Z8 in the 20-minute 3DMark Wild Life Extreme cycle test was 99.5%, which can be said that the frame rate has not fluctuated since the first round of testing, which is commendable and proves that the set of 3K ice pole three-dimensional heat dissipation of iQOO Z8 is indeed very sufficient to cope with Dimensity 8200.

In daily use scenarios with low power consumption, the power consumption of the iQOO Z8 is average. In the case of using Bilibili to play 4K online video, the power consumption of the whole machine is 2.526W, on the one hand, it may be due to the LCD screen is more power consuming, on the other hand, this power consumption is basically the same as the power consumption of multiple Dimensity 8200 tested in daily low load, it can be considered that the power consumption of Dimensity 8200 in daily use is relatively high.

Finally, we tested the 5-minute Genshin Meru running chart, and through the software reading, we can see that the resolution of Genshin running on the iQOO Z8 is 810x1791, which is more common in vivo models.

As can be seen from the frame rate graph, the frame rate of iQOO Z8 will fluctuate relatively large in the face of scene switching, urban exterior scenes, etc., and finally provide an average frame rate of 54.8 frames, a stable frame index of 5, and the number of stutters and severe stutters per 10 minutes is 24.1 times and 16.7 times, respectively, which is not very smooth overall.

At this time, the power consumption of the iQOO Z8 will reach 7.074W, which is somewhat high for this frame rate performance.

Finally, we also used a temperature gun to measure the back temperature of the mobile phone, the peak temperature of the back is 45.1 °C at room temperature of 27 °C, and the temperature dispersion on the back of the mobile phone is relatively uniform, but it can also be found from the distribution of the temperature map that the bottom and border of the mobile phone are not well involved in heat dissipation.

In general, the iQOO Z8 still has good performance with the Dimensity 8200, and the energy consumption is decent, but I don't recommend using the iQOO Z8 to try games such as "Broken Iron" that value GPU rendering capabilities. Games that mainly eat CPU, such as Genshin and Peace Elite, can still be played, plus the enclosed dual speakers and the X-axis vibration motor that is rare in its class can bring a good sense of immersion.

In terms of charging and battery life, the iQOO Z8 continues the rare 120W super flash charge + 5000mAh power combination in the price segment, and it takes 27 minutes to fill the entire phone.

According to our 2-hour B-station FHD video playback, 1-hour 4K video recording, and 30-minute endurance test model of "Peace Elite", the whole machine still has 45% of the power left, which can meet the needs of daily use.

It is worth mentioning that the iQOO Z8 itself also supports the UFCS fusion charging protocol, and non-iQOO chargers that support this protocol can achieve fast charging of up to 30W on the iQOO Z8. And the included charging head supports 65W PD, and with the original data cable, you can charge computers, headphones, game consoles and other devices that support the protocol, so that you can further reduce the number of charging heads you carry when you go out and reduce the burden on yourself.

In addition, iQOO Z8 also supports wired reverse charging of up to 7.5W, which can provide emergency power replenishment for other mobile phones and TWS earphone charging cases that are in short supply. Don't look at the low output power, but this function is quite useful in case of emergency.

Thanks to the cooperation between vivo visual health laboratory and MediaTek, iQOO Z8 has newly upgraded the front color temperature sensor, and can call the new dedicated IP module of Dimensity 8200 to achieve intelligent low blue light from the chip layer, while ensuring that the screen is not color cast as much as possible. Coupled with the addition of functions such as ambient color temperature adaptation, screen color ring, sleep comfort mode, game eye protection and anti-fatigue brightness adjustment, the eye protection ability of iQOO Z8 screen can be said to be quite hardcore.

In terms of color accuracy, the screen of each iQOO Z8 is adjusted piece by piece before leaving the factory to ensure the accuracy of color temperature, RGB color component and other indicators.

In terms of images, the iQOO Z8 is equipped with a dual camera combination of 64MP main camera + 2MP depth of field lens, of which the main camera provides 2x crop options, which is convenient for users to shoot portraits and close-ups. At the same time, the main camera also supports OIS optical image stabilization, which is really very rare on a thousand-yuan machine.

Judging from the sample shots, the iQOO Z8's color and HDR effects are decent, and it is still okay to use it for daily shooting and recording life.

With the Remosaic of the main camera hardware, iQOO introduced 50mm focal length HD image quality for the Z series for the first time, and with the depth of field lens, it performed very well in both portraits and close-ups.

After shooting, users can also add a white border to the photo in Album=Edit-Border, and leave the EXIF information at the time of shooting.
