Compared to 2021, the number of people has increased.

The academicians of the two academies are outstanding representatives and the highest and lifelong honorary academic titles in the field of science and technology and engineering technology in China, and the co-election of academicians is held every two years.
Yan Ning and Shi Zhengli were both elected as academician candidates of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, both in the Department of Life Sciences and Medicine. Yan Ning is 45 years old this year, and when he was less than 30 years old, he became a professor and doctoral supervisor at Tsinghua University, becoming "the youngest professor in Tsinghua".

Yan Ning has been teaching at Tsinghua University for ten years, and his scientific research achievements have twice been selected as one of the top ten progress of the year by Science, and he has also been selected as the "Chinese Science Star" by Nature magazine for his outstanding contributions to protein structure.
In 2017, Yan Ning went to the United States to be appointed as the Shirley Tillman Chair Professor in the Department of Molecular Biology at Princeton University, and was elected as a foreign member of the American Academy of Sciences in 2019. Shi Zhengli, 58 years old this year, has long been engaged in the etiology of emerging viruses. In the early days of the new crown epidemic, Shi Zhengli completed viral nucleic acid detection, whole genome sequence determination, virus isolation and culture, serological identification and animal infection experiments in a short period of time, and confirmed that the pathogen causing pneumonia of unknown cause in Wuhan was a new coronavirus.
After that, Shi Zhengli's team, on behalf of the Wuhan Institute of Virology, together with the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, took the lead in submitting the genome sequence to the World Health Organization for global sharing. After the successful isolation and culture of the virus, it organized and coordinated the cooperation with Sinopharm Zhongsheng Group to develop an inactivated vaccine, which was approved for conditional marketing in February 2021, as the world's first inactivated vaccine to enter the clinic.

It can be noted that in this year's list of academician candidates of the two academies, there are 100 female candidates, 50 in the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and 50 in the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the proportion is not much different from 2021.
The reporter found that this year, a total of 194 experts in the field of medicine and health were selected into the list of academicians of the two academies, including many "familiar faces" from the fields of respiratory diseases and infectious diseases.
For example, Cao Bin, an expert in the field of respiratory diseases and president of the China-Japan Friendship Hospital, was nominated as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and in 2021, he was selected as an academician candidate of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Lian Yubo, Chief Scientist of BYD Group, Chief Engineer of Automotive and President of Automotive Engineering Research Institute, has won the fourth "Outstanding Engineer Award", and his project "Key Technology and Industrialization of High-Performance Electric Vehicle Power System" won the second prize of the 2020 National Science and Technology Progress Award.
Xiangyang Shen was the former Executive Vice President of Microsoft and is now the Chairman of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Digital Economy Research Institute, focusing on computer vision, graphics, human-computer interaction, statistical learning, pattern recognition and robotics.

Tan Jiahua graduated from the Department of Shipbuilding of Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 1969, has been engaged in teaching, scientific research and design of ship and ocean engineering, and was selected as a candidate for academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 2021. He Qinghua was a professor and doctoral supervisor at Central South University of Technology (the predecessor of Central South University), and founded Sunward Intelligent Equipment Co., Ltd. at the age of 53, which is mainly engaged in equipment manufacturing.
In the list of valid candidates for the co-optation of academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the youngest is Chang Chao of the Department of Mathematical Physics, 39 years old this year, working at the National Defense Science and Technology Innovation Research Institute of the Academy of Military Sciences of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.
According to public information, Chang Chao is a 2006 direct doctoral student in the Department of Engineering Physics of Tsinghua University, supervised by Professor Tang Chuanxiang and Academician Liu Guozhi, engaged in national cutting-edge science and technology research, the main research direction is the research of high-power microwave (HPM) dielectric window breakdown mechanism and its application.
