On August 13, Mr. Hulid, a famous Chinese basketball coach and one of the "50 Masters of New China Basketball", died of illness in Beijing. In accordance with his wishes before his death, there will be no memorial service, only a simple farewell ceremony on August 19. However, in order to remember this old coach who has made outstanding contributions to the basketball cause of New China, especially for the Chinese women's basketball team, the reporter interviewed his students, two Chinese women's basketball captains and friends, hoping that through their memories of Mr. Hulid, more people can understand and remember this name.
Shot steadily and led the team well
Mr. Hulid was born on September 2, 1937 in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, and was selected into the Jiangsu men's basketball team in 1956 and the national men's basketball team in 1960, becoming one of the earliest players selected by the Jiangsu team to be selected for the national men's basketball team. As an athlete, his witty mind, quick reflexes and hard training left a deep impression on the people around him, and soon became the main player of the national men's basketball team at that time, winning the men's basketball championship at the first Emerging Power Games in 1963.
"When he was an athlete, he was a god pitcher on the field." Tian Wenhui, the former captain of the national women's basketball team who retired in 1974, was promoted to the national team in the same batch as Mr. Hulid, and later after Mr. Hulid retired to become a women's basketball coach, and played under him for many years, her evaluation of Mr. Hulid is comprehensive technology, flexible mind, coupled with approachable and amiable personality characteristics, was praised by everyone, unanimously considered to be the best candidate for the head coach of women's basketball.
According to Mr. Hulid's family, the old man sometimes recalled the change in his life trajectory before his death, he said: "From athletes to coaches, among so many excellent team members at that time, I was singled out to be a coach, which is the trust of the organization and leadership, and it is also a heavy responsibility, which I have always cherished." ”
During her nearly 30 years as the head coach, team leader and later head coach of the national youth women's basketball team, Mr. Hulid led the team to win a series of honors such as the women's basketball championship at the 1966 Asian Emerging Power Games, the women's basketball Asian championship in 1976 and 1990, the women's basketball champion at the 1986 Asian Games, and the women's basketball Asian Youth Championship in 1982 and 1984. After that, he joined the advisory committee of the Training Bureau of the National Sports Commission, served as the director and deputy director of the Women's Coaching Committee of the Chinese Basketball Association, was selected as one of the "50 Outstanding Basketball Sports in New China" in 1999, and was inducted into the Chinese Basketball Hall of Fame last year. The achievements on the court and the subsequent honors given by the basketball community are the best testimony and praise for Mr. Hulid's dedication and hard work throughout his life.
Introverted and meticulous
In his nearly 30 years of coaching career, Mr. Hulid has left two impressions on the players: one is his introverted personality, and the other is his meticulous work. In 1973, the second team of the national women's basketball team merged with the first team, and Luo Xuelian played under coach Hulid until she retired in 1978. "When I was still in the youth team, Coach Hu was already the head coach of the first team. At that time, Director Hu gave me the impression that he was very gentle, everyone had a very good relationship with him, and sometimes he would be embarrassed to joke with him. But as soon as he arrived on the pitch, as soon as he came to training, he was strict and orderly, well-trained, and a rare good coach. ”
At that time, basketball training required the players to try their best in running and jumping. The players complete a round trip run on the basketball court, and their heartbeats must reach the specified number of times, and 10 times to reach the required number of times to be considered final. Luo Xuelian said: "Guidance Hu does not shout or scream, and does not talk much, but what is stipulated must be done well. ”
Gentle in life and strict in training, this is the way Coach Hulid leads the team. But when he was in the game, his nimble mind, good observation and thinking traits came into play. At this point, when Xu Yinsheng, a famous table tennis player, went to the national table tennis women's team in 1964 to introduce the competition experience, he mentioned Hulid in the famous speech "On How to Play Table Tennis": "Mainland basketball player Hulid said that if you learn a little about the advantages of each of the 14 people on their basketball team, you will learn thirteen points." The most vivid expression of this evaluation is the final in which Hu Lide led the Chinese women's basketball team to participate in the Asian Championship for the first time in 1976, defeating the South Korean team to win the championship. In that game, the Chinese women's basketball team, which had just entered the international competition, was very nervous, unable to shoot in the face of an empty basket, and once trailed by more than a dozen points. But Hulid, who commanded on the sidelines, did not panic, and through calm observation and thinking, he advised the players to make fewer mistakes, strengthen defense, attack decisively, and create "killing" under the opponent's basket while restricting the opponent's attack. As a result, two big center forwards of the South Korean team were sent off one after another, and the Chinese team played a success rate, scoring back point by point, and finally won 73-68.
Deeply remembering Mr. Eternal
Mr. Hulid is very humble, never ostentatious, to his friends, he is sincere, willing to dedicate, as long as he sees and thinks, he will silently give the greatest support and help, everyone has a good impression of him, and has an excellent reputation.
After his retirement, Mr. Hulid continued his dedication and love for basketball. Even when his health is not good, as long as it is about basketball reports and events, he is still very concerned. In last year's Women's Basketball World Cup, the Chinese team finally won the runner-up, equaling the best record in the team's history, and Mr. Hulid was very happy, and the joy could be seen at a glance. The old man felt that this generation of Chinese women's basketball players played Chinese spirit on the court. Seeing their progress, he felt extremely gratified from his heart.
Last year, the first China Basketball Hall of Fame Inauguration Ceremony was held in Tianjin, and Mr. Hulid very much wanted to go to the scene, because he felt that things in the basketball world, as an old basketball person, should be fully supported and involved, which is the responsibility and obligation. However, due to physical reasons, he was unable to go to the scene. However, as long as the China Basketball Hall of Fame needs to cooperate with the interview, he will do his best to meet the requirements, and unreservedly share his experience and the story of the struggle of that generation with more people.
When he was still alive, he often took out the photos of that year to flip through, and talked to his family about the original exchange competition, led the team to visit and many other past events, and talked like a family treasure and looked proud. Every time he hears about the progress and achievements of students teaching in provincial teams, universities and clubs, he is overjoyed, believing that basketball has been popularized and promoted at the grassroots level, which can reserve more talents for Chinese basketball, he said: "The improvement of mass sports will eventually promote the development and progress of our basketball." ”
