In the article "Remembering Mr. Lu Xun" in Caprice, Ba Jin wrote: "Everyone wants Mr. Lu Xun to be what he thinks he is. But the gentleman is always the gentleman. For the truth, dare to love, dare to hate, dare to say, dare to do, dare to pursue... If the gentleman were alive, he would never let go of his 'gold not to change'. He was a writer, a great writer loved by the people. On the afternoon of October 18, the "Salary Transmission" Lu Xun and Ba Jin Photo Exhibition was unveiled at the Xuhui District Tourism Public Service Center, showing the friendship and spiritual inheritance of Lu Xun and Ba Jin, the two literary masters, and carrying forward their spiritual style.
The joint exhibition of Lu Xun and Ba Jin, two literary masters, was the first in Shanghai. October 17 is the day that Ba Jin left the reader for 16 years, and October 19 is the 85th anniversary of Lu Xun's death, and it makes no sense to choose this time to hold an exhibition.
The exhibition is divided into three chapters: the first, the middle and the lower chapters. "That person is more serious than others", is Lu Xun's evaluation of Ba Jin, but also the title of the previous part, from which you can feel Lu Xun's affirmation and care for the younger generation, but also show Ba Jin's work and communication attitude. The chapter traces the bits and pieces of Ba Jin's interaction with Lu Xun, from reading "Diary of a Madman" in Chengdu as a teenager, Ba Jin is Lu Xun's loyal reader, "Scream", "Wandering", "Weeds"... Ba Jin learned writing methods from Lu Xun's works and comforted his bitter heart. After participating in literary work, Ba Jin and Lu Xun had direct contact, compiling books, organizing manuscripts, talking at the same table, and then supporting and trusting each other. When Ba Jin was questioned by others, Lu Xun firmly sided with Ba Jin, endorsed him, and praised him as "a writer with enthusiasm and progressive ideas, a writer among the few good writers." After Lu Xun's death, Ba Jin was very sad, saying that "all of a sudden we lost everything", and when he saw the article attacking Mr. Lu, he even shouted in anger.
The novella, "We Have Never Forgotten Him", shows readers the books and objects related to Lu Xun in Ba Jin's collection, including some of Lu Xun's works, translations, lu xun complete works, lu xun complete manuscripts, books compiled and printed by lu xun, and even envelopes for Lu Xun's commemorative activities and stamps of Lu Xun's head. Ba Jin saved everything related to Lu Xun that he came into contact with, as small as a piece of paper and a stamp, and preserved it in a precious place. Ba Jin was hospitalized for a long time in his later years, and in the book he brought to the hospital, there was a pocket copy of Lu Xun's Poetry Manuscripts, and his family said that he often read and recited them in his hospital bed to exercise his memory. Ba Jin has a collection of tens of thousands of books, and it is no accident that this one is singled out. It can be said that Lu Xun's poetry accompanied Ba Jin to the end of his life.
The next part of the exhibition, "Following Lu Xun's Path", tells about Ba Jin's practical actions to inherit and carry forward the spirit of Lu Xun. "In Memory of Mr. Lu Xun", "Mr. Lu Xun Ten Years Festival", "Remembering Mr. Lu Xun", "Autumn Night", "Mr. Lu Xun I Know"... In commemoration of Lu Xun's articles, Ba Jin wrote one after another, "For me his life is a source of inspiration, just as his book is a guide for me." Whenever he stood in front of the statue of Lu Xun, or visited the place where Mr. Lu had lived and worked, Ba Jin could recall the bits and pieces of his time with Mr. Lu, and always reflect and lash out at himself. Lu Xun's works and his spiritual strength give Ba Jin "new strength and courage" to survive the "dark clouds and sky days". In his later years, Ba Jin raised the banner of "telling the truth", which is a direct inheritance and development of Lu Xun's spirit.
Lu Xun is known as the father of China's emerging printmaking, with a strong interest and unique insight into printmaking. In the exhibition, a number of woodblock prints are selected, such as the illustration of Lu Xun's novel "A Q Zheng biography" by printmaker Liu Dan, the portrait of the author of "Wild Grass" - Lu Xun, the "Lace Literature of Lu Xun" by woodcarver Cao Bai, the woodcut work "Lu Xun Statue" by calligraphy and painting artist Chen Guangzong, the woodcut lu Xun statue made by painter Gu Yuan, and the woodcut "Chocobo Bird" made by printmaker Zhao Yannian, etc. The sense of black and white contrasting lines complements the layout design.
A green-covered book of Night Notes meets readers at the opening ceremony of the exhibition. Proposed by Ba Jin, edited by Lu Xun, edited by Xu Guangping, and published by the Cultural Life Publishing House presided over by Ba Jin, the collection of essays "Night Notes" has not been reproduced in 70 years, except for inclusion in the "Literary Series". The reproduction of the first edition of the book launched by Barkin's former residence is not only a commemoration of the literary friendship between the two predecessors, but also hopes to present and inherit the new literary spirit in this form.
"Last year, I noticed that the 'Literary Series' edited by Ba Jin published Lu Xun's collection of essays in his later years, "Night Notes", which was named by Lu Xun himself, and that the above four essays were included in the Night Record. Unfortunately, the "Night Record" only wrote these four articles, Lu Xun died suddenly, and the "Night Record" was not completed. Later, Xu Guangping continued to edit "Night Notes" and published it in 1937. "Night Notes" is the first book published after Lu Xun's death, which has its special significance. Chen Zishan, librarian of the Shanghai Museum of Culture and History, professor of the Department of Chinese of East China Normal University, and vice president of the Ba Jin Research Association, told the story behind this small book.
On July 13, 1956, Ba Jin made a specific recollection of the essay collection "Night Notes", "Mr. Lu Xun is such a person": (The "New Edition of Stories" was published) A few months later, I asked Mr. Lu Xun for a draft at a banquet, and I said that I hoped that there would be one of his collections in the fourth episode of the "Literary Series", and he readily agreed. After some time, he asked Comrade Huang Yuan to bring a message and tell me the name of the collection: the prose collection "Night Notes". Soon he became ill, and after his illness he became well he wrote several articles. I heard that he had put aside the four articles of "Half Summer Collection", "This Is Also Life", "Death", and "Female Hanging", and was already preparing to compile "Night Notes", but illness and sudden death interrupted his work. He also visited his Japanese comrade Shikachi on the afternoon of October 17, and died in his apartment on the morning of October 19. The "Night Record", which is included in the fourth episode of the "Literary Series", is also a collection compiled by Mr. Xu Jingsong for Mr. Lu Xun after his death. Every time I look at these two small books, I feel his sincerity and enthusiasm for people, serious and responsible for his work, and I seem to see his all-encompassing and loving heart.
"Ba Jin's words are full of emotion, and the weight of Lu Xun's "New Compilation of Stories" and "Night Notes" that have been written and have not yet been written, and edited by Xu Guangping, two published by the Cultural Life Publishing House, are evident in the weight of Lu Xun's mind." Chen Zishan said.
"Through the hook and sinking of historical materials, we can deeply feel the relationship between the two cultural giants, feel that the warmth between them still warms us, and their spiritual light still shines on us." Wang Wei, secretary of the party group of the Shanghai Writers Association, said that Mr. Ba Jin is an important bridge for us to understand the spirit of Lu Xun, and through Ba Jin's special perspective, we can feel the spirit of Lu Xun.
"Fortunate to live in Shanghai, Lu Xun and Ba Jin are not only textbook names, but also living people in childhood and adolescent memories, which is the spiritual gift and nourishment source that Shanghai is a treasure city for humanistic workers." Pan Xiangli, winner of the Lu Xun Literature Prize and vice chairman of the Shanghai Writers Association, said that revisiting the imprints of the two most glorious and important literary masters in our city, and re-combing and feeling the spiritual foundation they left us, "Ba Jin and Lu Xun have a lot in common, they are by no means vulgar, never superficial, and never false, this is a profound enlightenment to generations of writers, and it is also our eternal benchmark and lifelong practice." The true meaning of the word "salary transmission" may be in it.
