In Fast and Furious, Dominique Toledo's main car is the 1970 Charger with an exposed supercharger. Even in the subsequent 4th to 9th generation movies, Don has been driving this Charger in the plot and passing it on to his brother Jacob.

1 Vehicle history

Charger, which means Stormtrooper/War Horse, is a series of large muscle cars (high-performance cars) produced by Dodge, a brand of the Chrysler Group, which was first unveiled at the 1964 auto show. It is actually based on several series of models derived from several series of chassis, all under the Charger name. In addition to high-performance/full-size models, this name has also been applied to different models such as subcompact cars and coupes. The original Charger was positioned as a truly American muscle car. After various changes, the Charger is now a front-drive, rear-drive, high-performance four-door sedan.

The Charger was used as one of the mainstream chasing police cars in the United States in reality after the Ford Victoria Crown was discontinued. Due to the defeats of rivals Ford Taurus and Chevrolet Caprice, it became almost the only choice for American police cars. Due to its small space and lack of four-wheel drive, it remained unpopular with the Northern Police until the SXT released a four-wheel drive version. But unlike the Ford Victorian Crown, some of its police modifications lack intermediate partitions and doorknob-less rear doors, and the back seat is used to carry more officers than suspects. (Suspects now sit more often in specialized escort vehicles with plastic seats that can be washed directly with clean water.) )

2 Performance

The Charger powertrain uses Dodge's 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine, with a maximum horsepower of 370 hp and a maximum torque of 536 Nm, and the proven W5A580 five-speed automatic transmission Charger also uses automatic shift technology and Auto Stick technology, the function of Auto Stick is that it will automatically shift gears when the engine speed exceeds or falls below a certain speed range. But with this technology, the driver can forcibly choose a higher or lower gear. The final reduction ratio has been adjusted to 3.91:1, which also helps to improve acceleration.

3 Summary

Interestingly, in the 1968 movie "Iron Kong", the villain's Charger R/T and Steve McQueen's protagonist drove the Ford Mustang (both cars were new to the year). In the end, the Charger driven by the villain lost control and crashed into a gas station, killing the car. It is said that because of the release of the movie, the Ford Mustang sold well, and the Charger was slow to sell. But during shooting, the Charger was much more durable than the Mustang.
