Commonwealth of the West Indies (1958-1962)

The Federation of the West Indies (also known as the West Indian Federation) was a federation of the Caribbean Sea that briefly existed from January 3, 1958 to May 31, 1962. The Commonwealth consists of several British colonies, including Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Jamaica, and the islands of the Leeward and Windward Islands, with its capital in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. The British government expects the federation to become a full political entity, and then a single state independent of the United Kingdom, as Canada, the Commonwealth of Australia, and the Commonwealth of Rhodesia and Nyasaland. Prior to this, however, the Confederation had collapsed due to internal political conflicts, and the debate was about how to govern or operate effectively.
