The fierce wind of the artificial intelligence model finally blew into the living room.

2023 is undoubtedly the first year of artificial intelligence big model, according to incomplete statistics, many domestic Baidu, SenseTime and many other companies have released ChatGPT-like large models, and more than 30 large model products have been released to the public. Nowadays, as the artificial intelligence model begins to combine with the TV, the battle has intensified, and the stereotypical built-in artificial intelligence assistant in the TV finally has the opportunity to get rid of the label of "artificial intellectual disability".

According to the "2022-2026 Smart TV Market Status Survey and Development Prospect Analysis Report" released by Hangzhou CEI Zhisheng Market Research Co., Ltd., the future development of home appliances will be intelligent as the trend, to achieve "human-machine dialogue, intelligent control, automatic operation", which will have a huge impact on the daily life of existing families, and will also comprehensively rewrite the status quo and industry pattern of the home appliance market. The interconnection of information equipment is an inevitable trend of intelligent home appliances in the future.

TV manufacturers embrace large models

In fact, as the core hub in the home entertainment space, embracing the artificial intelligence big model is an inevitable trend in the development of the industry. Since the popularity of ChatGPT at the beginning of the year, the combination of artificial intelligence and TV has presented a situation of crowd competition.

The cover news noted that at present, many domestic manufacturers have announced that they will take advantage of the east wind of artificial intelligence large models to create a full range of artificial intelligence products and services, including Hisense, Skyworth, Changhong and other manufacturers have begun to explore in related fields, some manufacturers have launched TV products combined with artificial intelligence, and some manufacturers will run large models on the TV end and conduct public testing.

Taking Sichuan Changhong as an example, on June 15, Changhong official micro announced that some products of Changhong TV have been equipped with the "Changhong Super Brain" artificial intelligence system, and officially opened the public beta for users. According to reports, "Changhong Superbrain" is an artificial intelligence superbrain system built by relying on multimodal interaction, semantic understanding and intent recognition, big data and other technologies. Can perceive, understand, learn, can be applied to life encyclopedia knowledge, learning education assistance, document creation and generation and other fields. Based on the AI model, Changhong will further empower TV to provide a more powerful user experience in the fields of audio and video entertainment, learning guidance, family health, knowledge encyclopedia, and smart office.

Changhong is not the first TV manufacturer to lay out large models of artificial intelligence.

In February this year, Hisense Vision announced that it would explore cooperation with Baidu's "Wen Xin Yiyan", and users will be able to experience Baidu's comprehensive capabilities of "Wen Xin Yiyan" on Hisense TV in the future. Moreover, Baidu's intelligent dialogue technology achievements are applied in the field of intelligent content production of display products such as Hisense TV.

In April, Skyworth Digital said that the company's integration of large models and smart set-top boxes has been laid out and developed, and the company is in in-depth communication with relevant AIGC large model platforms at home and abroad. The company's related overseas smart boxes, home smart assistants and other ChatGPT application products, the company has been planning, development and testing.

In June, Konka also pointed out in response to investors' questions that Konka TV supports the voice function of far and near fields, and can perform film and television search, program on-demand, weather query, encyclopedia chat and other operations through voice. The company is actively applying big data, artificial intelligence and other technologies to smart TV products.

Finding the "point of convergence" is critical

In fact, this is not the first wave of artificial intelligence in the TV industry, and smart TVs have long been widely regarded as the entrance and core of the competition for the "living room economy".

As early as 2018, the domestic TV market staged an "AI battle". At that time, Storm AI TV 7 was released, featuring "the world's first artificial intelligence TV that killed the TV remote control". Haier and Alibaba Digital Entertainment jointly released the fifth generation of TV, with built-in "TV Taobao" AI application; Tencent also announced a strategic cooperation with Sichuan Changhong to apply Tencent's Jingdong AI assistant solution to Changhong TV. Skyworth and Baidu reached a strategic cooperation to jointly develop a dual-engine super AI TV.

Why didn't TV manufacturers jump on the last industry wave?

Cover News believes that on the one hand, the previous "TV + artificial intelligence" is more focused on the voice interaction between users and products, equipped with voice interaction, dialect recognition and intelligent Q&A and other functions. Previously, Baidu founder Robin Li once mentioned: "If a few decades ago, remote controls changed the way people interact with TVs, now artificial intelligence will make TVs understand users better." Not only does it understand you, but it also knows what you want before you speak. For the homogeneous TV industry, these functions are more similar to the existence of "icing on the cake", and cannot become the core selling point of TV products. On the other hand, the previous development of the artificial intelligence industry is still in a relatively early stage, and has not formed an advantage in the user experience, so the perception of users is not strong.

With the current development of display technology in the TV industry into a bottleneck, there is no breakthrough display technology in the industry, and if you want to improve the user experience, you can only start from the intelligent experience level. In this way, the wave of artificial intelligence large models may rewrite the embarrassing situation that artificial intelligence is not intelligent enough, and promote the real arrival of the era of artificial intelligence in the TV industry.

The emergence of positive signals in the industry is also reflected in the sales of TV products. According to the data report released by RUNTO, the overall shipment of brands in the Chinese TV market in Q1 2023 was 8.52 million units, down 0.6% from 2022 and 8.9% from 2021. Artificial intelligence seems to have become an opportunity for the TV industry to "bottom out".

But at the same time, the TV industry also needs to realize that the application of any new technology must be based on the nature of the terminal, not replaced by new technology. With the launch of more and more large models, the integration of TV and artificial intelligence will eventually be completed, and how to create a more suitable TV intelligent experience according to its own product characteristics and the advantages of artificial intelligence technology in this process will become the key point of future TV industry competition. In other words, while features such as generating text and images are industry-breaking, they are not exclusive to TV.
