"Jinfang", is the Beijinger's abbreviation for "Jinfang Snack Bar", but also soaked in the Beijingers, especially the chongwenmen near the residents of the store affection.
"Jinfang" was originally located on the east side of Chongwenmenwai Street, and adjacent to it are the famous Chinese medicine store "Qianzhitang", "Wang Mazi Knife and Scissor Shop", and a large silk cloth shop. Not far to the south is the famous "Flower Market Street", which is lined with shops and bookstores. The environment where "Jinfang" is located highlights the strong atmosphere of old Beijing. This is one of the main reasons I used to visit the store a lot.
Jinfang Snack Bar (Chongwen Store)
It is said that "Jinfang", formerly known as "Rong Xiangcheng", is a shop specializing in beef and mutton that opened in 1926. After the liberation, the store added old Beijing snacks, etc., in the 1960s renamed "Jinfang Muslim Snack Bar", the business varieties were positioned in snacks, Lantern and other foods, and the reputation rose, and eventually became a famous store in Beijing.
From my original home, it is only two stops by bus to "Jinfang", and if you walk it takes up to half an hour. In addition, the variety, taste and texture of the snacks here are good, so I often come here to eat "snacks" and buy some "snacks" to enjoy at home.
In the 1970s and 1980s, my mother often took us and our children to shop at chongwenmenwai store. Every time, I must go to "Jinfang" to eat "snacks". The old Beijing snacks operated by "Jinfang" are excellent in quality, meticulous, taste and taste authentic, so more and more customers come to the store, often queuing up to buy. I remember that the old Beijing snack varieties of the store include cream fried cake, honey twist flower, jiangmi cold cake, sugar fire, Ai Wo Wo, Hemp dumplings, sesame cake, bean noodle cake, Unicorn crisp, open mouth smile and so on. There are also many liquid foods here, such as noodle tea, lotus porridge, haggis soup, croquette soup and so on.
My parents, my daughter and niece all like to eat "Jinfang" cream fried cakes and Lanterns, and I like the Aiwowo and cold cakes here, and every time I pass by "Jinfang", I go in to eat a few Aiwowo and a plate of cold cakes. More often than not, I came here to buy cream fried cakes and Lanterns.
The waiters here are very attentive and every time I buy cream cakes, they carefully pack and sprinkle white sugar for me. If you don't want to sprinkle sugar on the fried cake, they will wrap the sugar and give it to you. In the 1980s, I was almost a regular visitor here.
In contrast, I must talk about my experience at a long-established snack bar in the "East Fourth" area. That day, I bought two plates of cream fried cakes, and the young "aunts" and waiters were chatting with each other so hot that they forgot to sprinkle sugar in the fried cakes.
Creamy fried cake
I waited for half a minute, and I couldn't help it, so I said politely, "You haven't put sugar yet!" The word "you" fully shows that I see them as "people.". Unexpectedly, an "aunt" was furious and shouted at me: "Why didn't you say when you handed it to you just now, you fucking look for the back account!" ”
You see, is this a "person"? Do you understand "human language"? I didn't bother to argue with them, but just said, "Are you reasonable?" Don't want to do it! At this time, a very old teacher came over and personally sprinkled sugar on my fried cake, and he took my hand and walked to the side and said, "Don't be angry, just like this, you rush to my face, don't be angry with them!" After the teacher said this, I said "thank you" to the teacher and left.
When I walked out of the store, I wondered if we had once sung a song called "Glorious Eight Members." The lyrics are mainly about the cooks, nannies, and waiters who did service work in the old society who were bullied and insulted everywhere, and after liberation they turned over and were respected by the people. Now it is good, not the "eight members" who are insulted and bullied, but the customers and buyers who are insulted and bullied by them, which is really ridiculous! At that time, there were many such cases of waiters bumping into customers and insulting customers in various stores. When I think about it, I don't know what the reason is. But in "Jinfang", at least I have never encountered such problems.
Speaking of "Jinfang", we must talk about the Lantern of "Jinfang". Usually, when the store operates the Lantern Festival, there are a large number of customers to buy, if you catch the eve of the "Lantern Festival", there is a long queue at the entrance of the snack bar, and people do not hesitate to spend an hour or two queuing up to buy. The reason is that the Lantern of "Jinfang" is good! On the eve of the Lantern Festival, my family did not hesitate to wait in long lines to buy the Lantern Festival.
The Lantern of "Jinfang" can be described as unique, not only the skin is white, the variety of fillings is diverse, and the important thing is that it tastes like the Lantern is smooth, the sweetness is moderate, the stickiness is appropriate, and the filling is smooth and soft. Therefore, the person who buys the Lantern buys almost all kinds of stuffed Lanterns, what hawthorn, chocolate, black sesame, white sugar, etc., each has its own taste, each has a different taste!

In the 1990s, due to the demolition of the hutong where I lived, my family moved to live outside the fifth ring road, and I rarely had time to go to "Jinfang" since then. A few years later, it returned to Chongwenmenwai Street, and both sides were no longer the same as before. The streets nearby have also changed dramatically, with tall new buildings lining the streets. Where is "Jinfang"? I do not know. When asked about passers-by, almost seven or eight of the ten people are foreigners, needless to say where "Jinfang" moved, that is, even the name "Jinfang", those people do not know!
Later, I heard that "Jinfang" was relocated to the first floor of a commercial building in "Ciqikou", so I decided to say goodbye to "Jinfang" from then on. Because even if you go to "Jinfang" again, what will the environmental atmosphere become? So if you don't go, you can leave some good memories of the past "Jinfang"!
