Zhang Ling, a Shu Han relic that was not inferior to Zhuge Liang

Zhang Ling

Zhang Ling [nì], also spelled Boqi, was born in Nanchongguo County,Bashi County (present-day southern Sichuan County), born in an unknown year, a famous general of the Shu Han Dynasty during the Three Kingdoms period, who was open-minded and bold, and was originally Gongcao of Nanchongguo County.

When Liu Bei attacked Shu County, some mountain thieves took the opportunity to plunder the county court, and Zhang Ling stepped forward to protect Nanchong Guo County Ling and his wife, so his reputation was greatly enhanced.

When Zhuge Liang was initially preparing for the Northern Expedition, Zhang Ling quelled the Guanghan rebellion and consolidated the interior of the Shu state, and was promoted to the position of Yamen general for his merits.

Soon, Zhang Ling followed Ma Zhong many times to quell the rebellion in the south and central regions, and was promoted to the post of Taishou of Yuewei [xī] (the seat of government in Qiongdu County, now southeast of Xichang, Sichuan), where he served for fifteen years, during which time he quelled many rebellions, built a large number of castles, opened the road from Yuewei to Chengdu, and won the praise of the people.

Zhang Ling's term of office in YueWei had expired, and he was conscripted into the dynasty, worshipped as a general of Langkou, and was crowned as the Marquis of Guannei.

During Zhang Ling's tenure, Yue Wei was stable and peaceful, and the people lived and worked in peace and contentment.

When he left office, the people supported his car and wept, and could not bear to let him leave, which shows that Zhang Ling was deeply loved by the local people when he was a magistrate in Yuewei.

Influenced by literary works such as "Romance of the Three Kingdoms", when it comes to Shu Han, people naturally think of Zhuge Liang, who is almost a demon, and Liu Guan, Zhang Zhao, Ma Huang and other famous generals, but ignore Zhang Ling, who is no less than these celebrities in the history.

Chen Shou, the author of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, commented on Zhang Ling: "Knowing the Mingguo" means that he is wise and decisive, insightful, and good at making decisions.

Most people believe that after Zhuge Liang's death, Shu Han had no available talents, but this was not the case.

When Fei Yi was serving as a general, he treated people kindly, lacked vigilance, and had too much trust in the generals who surrendered to Cao Wei.

Zhang Ling was full of worries about this, so he wrote to Fei Yi to advise: "The general is in a high position of power, and he should learn more from the past and maintain his due vigilance." ”

Fei Yi took Zhang Ling's words as a sidewind, and was soon killed.

On the first day of the first lunar month of the sixteenth year of the Shu Han Dynasty (253), the State of Wei assassinated Fei Yi by assassinating Guo Yi.

Zhang Ling's astonishing predictive power was breathtaking, but unfortunately, many of the shu han ministers did not realize this.

Zhuge Ke

Zhuge Ke was the son of Zhuge Jin, a minister of wu state and the nephew of Zhuge Liang, the chancellor of the Shu Han Dynasty, who had been known as a prodigy since childhood and was quite appreciated by Sun Quan, the lord of Wu.

When Sun Quan was dying, Zhuge Ke was entrusted with the lonely vassal, and after Sun Liang ascended the throne, Zhuge Ke took control of the military power.

In the sixteenth year of the Shu Han Dynasty (the second year of Eastern Wu Jianxing, 253 AD), the State of Wei took advantage of the death of the State of Wu and sent troops to conquer the State of Wu.

Ignoring the opposition of the people, Zhuge Ke urged 200,000 soldiers and horses to rush out of Cao Wei's army.

When Zhang Ling learned of the news, he wrote a letter to Zhuge Ke's cousin, Zhuge Zhan (Zhuge Liang's son) in the Shu Han Dynasty, saying: "Sun Quan, the monarch of the State of Wu, has just died of illness, and Sun Liang, who succeeded to the throne, is young, and it is not easy for Taifu Zhuge Ke to accept the entrustment, and it is not easy to assist the young lord!"

At that time, the Duke of Zhou assisted Cheng Wang, who was both a close relative of the monarch and very capable, but when he was in power, he still did not hide from the gossip of Uncle Guan and Uncle Cai, and they framed the Duke of Zhou for wanting to usurp the throne.

Huo Guanglin was ordered to assist Emperor Zhao of Han, and Liu Dan the Prince of Yan and others took the opportunity to rebel. Now, when Lord Wu was dying, he was hastily entrusting Taifu, which was very worrying. ”

Zhang Ling believed that Zhuge Ke left the young Sun Liang and personally led a large army to attack the Wei army, which was very prone to accidents, so he asked Zhuge Zhan to write a letter to persuade Zhuge Ke to withdraw the army and turn to develop agriculture and recuperate.

Zhuge Ke did not listen and insisted on conquest of the State of Wei, but was defeated miserably in Xincheng. After Zhuge Ke's defeat, he was very jealous of the ministers discussing the matter, which caused dissatisfaction among the young emperor Sun Liang and the clan sun jun.

Sun Jun staged a coup d'état, killing Zhuge Ke and destroying his family. If Fei Yi and Zhuge Ke could accept Zhang Ling's advice, perhaps the history of the Three Kingdoms would be a different story.

In the seventeenth year of the Shu Han Dynasty (254 AD), Zhang Ling took an illness to consult the Wei general Xu Qian, and before leaving, he declared to the lord Liu Chan: "The subject is valued by His Majesty, has been repeatedly favored by the Emperor, and now he is seriously ill, often worried about himself, and cannot repay His Majesty in this life."

Now that he has the opportunity to go to the battlefield to fight for the country, if he can capture Liangzhou, the subject is willing to serve there as the general who guards the border, and if he cannot win, the subject is willing to die to repay His Majesty! After the lord Liu Chan saw it, he burst into tears.

When the two armies fought, Zhang Ling confronted the Wei general Xu Qian, because he was outnumbered, he was killed on the battlefield, and the people of Yue Wei were all sad and wept when they heard the news, so they built a temple in the local area and burned incense to sacrifice Zhang Ling.

The imperial court made Zhang Ling's eldest son Zhang Ying the Marquis of Xixiang, and his second son Zhang Huxiong inherited the title of Marquis of Guannei.
