Li Sixun served as a general of the Wuwei Dynasty and was known as "General Li". Dong Qichang of the Ming Dynasty promoted him as the ancestor of "Northern Sect".

Li Sixun achieved Jiang Duling during the reign of Emperor Gaozong of Tang. When Wu Zetian wanted to revolutionize the Tang Clan's orders, many clan nobles were framed, and Li Sixun abandoned his official position at this time to hide. In the early years of Tang Shenlong, Emperor Zhongzong of Tang ascended the throne, and because Li Sixun was the surviving Li Tang Zhengzong, he was directly awarded the title of high-ranking official of Zong Zhengqing. At the beginning of the reign of Emperor Xuanzong of Tang, Li Sixun was awarded the title of Grand General of Zuo Yulin. Died in the sixth year of the new century and was buried in the bridge mausoleum.

There were five wonderful Danqing among the Li Sixun brothers, and Sixun was the most important at that time. His paintings are extremely superb, especially the stone forest springs of The GongShan Mountain, which are difficult to write. His son Zhaodao was also very famous in the calligraphy and painting circles at that time, when people called his father and son "General Li and General Xiao Li", General Li referred to Li Sixun, and General Xiao Li referred to Li Zhaodao. The green and green colored landscapes mentioned today are said to have come from General Li.

Li Sixun is good at painting green landscapes, and is influenced by Zhan Ziqian and his pen is vigorous. The theme is mostly a secluded place. The painting style is exquisite and rigorous, with a strong color of gold and turquoise as the landscape. In terms of using the pen, it can twist and turn out the changes in the hills and ravines. The strictness of the law, the superb artistic conception, the strength of the pen, and the rich colors show the development and maturity of landscape painting from small green to large green.

It and the ink landscape painting that emerged in the same period laid the foundation for the landscape painting of the Five Dynasties and the Northern Song Dynasty. His works are scattered. There are still seventeen records in the Xuanhe Book.

Li Sixun is good at painting landscapes, pavilions, Buddhist paths, flowers and trees, birds and animals, especially known for his golden landscapes. His landscape paintings were mainly inspired by the Sui Dynasty painter Zhan Ziqian's green landscape painting style, and developed them to form a neat and rich style of jinbi landscape painting.

Li Sixun's Jinbi landscape paintings had a huge and far-reaching impact on the development of Later Chinese Landscape Painting. The green landscape in the landscape paintings of later generations is a continuation of his school of painting style. In the Ming Dynasty, Mo Shilong and Dong Qichang and others put forward the theory of the Southern and Northern Sects in painting, and listed him as the ancestor of the "Northern Sect". The "Jiangfan Pavilion Map" that has survived to this day is recorded to be his work, but it is still controversial.
