Wang Xingyao, former vice mayor of Huai'an City, was sentenced in the first instance in the case of accepting bribes and abusing his power

Nanjing, December 20 (Xinhua) -- On December 20, 2018, the Taizhou Intermediate People's Court publicly pronounced a verdict on the bribery and abuse of power case of Wang Xingyao, former vice mayor of Huai'an City. According to the trial, Wang Xingyao decided to transfer state-owned assets without authorization, causing national economic losses of 83.8581 million yuan.

On the same day, the court ruled that the defendant Wang Xingyao was sentenced to four years' imprisonment and fined 300,000 yuan for accepting bribes; for the crime of abuse of power, sentenced to six years' imprisonment, and decided to carry out the fixed-term imprisonment of seven years and six months, and fined 300,000 yuan. The property obtained from bribery shall be recovered and handed over to the State Treasury.

After trial, it was ascertained that from 2004 to 2014, defendant Wang Xingyao took advantage of his position as the mayor of Huaiyin District of Huai'an City, the county magistrate of Hongze County, and the secretary of the Hongze County CPC Committee to provide assistance to relevant units and individuals in project development and other aspects, and illegally accepted property from relevant units and individuals totaling RMB930,000. In 2011, when defendant Wang Xingyao was the secretary of the Hongze County CPC Committee, he decided to transfer the "Gushui Street" project to Zhongpu Group without collective discussion or assessment of state-owned assets, resulting in a national economic loss of 83.8581 million yuan.

The Taizhou Municipal Intermediate People's Court held that defendant Wang Xingyao's conduct constituted the crime of accepting bribes and abusing his power. In view of the fact that after Wang Xingyao arrived at the case, he was able to truthfully confess the facts of the crime, actively return the stolen goods, and the stolen money and stolen goods have all been recovered, he may be given a lighter punishment as appropriate. The Tribunal accordingly rendered the above-mentioned judgment. (End)
