With the capital to sacrifice his life to save his life, Lu Bing was more trusted by Jiajing, and his official position was promoted again and again, and he was also knighted by Jiajing many times, and finally became the only heavy minister who was "three dukes and three orphans" at that time, which was also the first minister in the history of the Ming Dynasty to be concurrently named three dukes and three orphans when he was alive.
Although Lu Bingquan was in power, he never had an official position, and he treated people kindly, especially with an equal attitude towards talented scholars. When Jiajing was wrongfully imprisoned many times, Lu Bing also used his power to save countless people, and never framed a person, so people inside and outside the imperial court said good things about him.
But it is such a person who is included in the "Legend of Yu Xing" in the "History of Ming", and is listed with the famous traitors Jiang Bin, Qian Ning and others of the Ming Wuzong Dynasty, what is the reason?
1. Jiajing's childhood playmate
Lu Bing's family obviously has a "family inheritance" of Jinyiwei: Lu Bing's grandfather Lu Yiwei is Jinyiwei, and Lu Bing's father Lu Song also became Jinyiwei. Lu Song later followed Zhu Youqi the Prince of Xing, the father of Jiajing Zhu Houxi, to Anlu Domain, Hubei.
Lu Bing was born and raised in Anlu, and his mother was Zhu Houxi's nursing mother, so he went in and out of Xingwangfu since he was a child, followed Zhu Houxi, and was not only Zhu Houxi's playmate, but also guarded Zhu Houxi's safety.
In April 1521, Emperor Wuzong of Ming died, and the 14-year-old Zhu Houxi accepted Empress Dowager Yi's order to take the throne in the capital, and Lu Bing's family followed him to the capital. After arriving in the capital, the teenage Lu Bing took the position of "housekeeper" in Jinyiwei.
Although Lu Bing was young at that time, because he was born in a "family" of Jinyiwei, he could be said to be a good look when he did Jinyiwei.
According to historical records, Lu Bing's appearance is very distinctive, and the "History of Ming" describes him as "a wujian and dull owl, with a long body and a fire-colored body, walking like a crane." "The whole person looks strong and powerful, very powerful.
Lu Bing was very good at learning, and the commander of Jinyiwei at that time made Wang Zuo admire him very much, and personally taught him to deal with various affairs in the process of handling cases by Jinyiwei, Lu Bing learned quickly, and at the same time was grateful to Wang Zuo for his careful teaching.
In 1532, Lu Bing participated in the Wuhui examination and was awarded the post of deputy Qianhu of Jinyiwei. Later, Lu Song died, and Lu Bing took up his post as the commander of Jinyiwei.
Because he grew up with Jiajing since he was a child, Lu Bing was deeply trusted by Jiajing, and Jiajing was very generous to Lu Bing when he granted official positions. Soon after Lu Bing's attack on command, Jiajing made him temporarily the commander, and in 1538, the 28-year-old Lu Bing took over Jinyiwei and served as the commander of Jinyiwei.
2. Close network
The Jinyiwei commanders of the Jiajing period had a good reputation in history, such as Wang Zuo, who focused on cultivating Lu Bing, and when he was a commander, he tried his best to save the lives of Zhang Heling's brothers; Wang Zuo's successor, Chen Yin, was also generous and friendly.
Chen Yin was followed by Lu Bing, as Jiajing's childhood friend, Lu Bing took over as the commander of Jinyiwei, and he had more power than any of his predecessors.
At Lu Bing's age, almost all of the people who held important official positions with him were his father's generation. In front of these fathers, Lu Bing has always maintained a very respectful attitude, but behind his back, he uses tactics to get rid of those who look down on him.
Looking at Lu Bing's official career, this is probably the easiest place to criticize.
For Lu Bing's actions, Jiajing showed complete favoritism, even if Lu Bing's things were discovered by the imperial history and impeached, Jiajing would ignore them and never cure Lu Bing's crimes because of this.
Even though there is a factor that Jiajing likes to "protect the short", Lu Bing's characteristics of being good at greeting can also be seen.
Lu Bing is well versed in the way of being an official, in addition to having Jiajing as his tough background, he is also keen to build good relations with cabinet ministers Xia Yan, Yan Song, Xu Jie and others, he married his second daughter to Yan Song's grandson Yan Shaoting, and the third daughter married Xu Jie's son Xu Ying, and established a tight relationship network through marriage.
While being loyal to Jiajing, he also carefully managed his relationship with the powerful ministers, and such a person naturally mixed up in the imperial court and always maintained a standing posture.
Although Lu Bing has such a close network, he does not hesitate to use real money to pave the way when he really needs help.
3. Save your friend Yu Dayou
Yu Dayou is a famous anti-Yan general in history, although he has repeatedly made combat achievements, but because Yan Song is in power, he is often wronged and suppressed.
In 1558, Yu Dayou and Qi Jiguang jointly resisted the Wokou, and Yu Dayou led his army to kill 45,000 enemy troops one after another, almost eliminating this group of thieves. At this time, the overall situation of the Ming army against the Wokou was grim, and the commander Hu Zongxian thought that it would be more beneficial to the whole situation to temporarily release the Wokou, so he secretly opened a gap to allow the thief to escape.
As a result, the unfavorable situation of the anti-Yan war soon attracted the impeachment of Yushi Li Hu, and Hu Zongxian put the responsibility for this matter on Yu Dayou in his defense.
Yu Dayou was immediately arrested and imprisoned, and Jiajing decreed that his privileges of hereditary patronage be revoked.
Lu Bing and Yu Dayou have a good relationship, and he knows that after Yu Dayou is arrested and imprisoned, he immediately raises funds to prepare for the rescue.
Although Lu Bing has a tight network, he knows that the arrest of Yu Dayou is Jiajing's will, and he knows Jiajing's character very well, and if he wants to rescue Yu Dayou, he must not blatantly engage in personal gain, so after raising a thousand taels of gold, he did not dare to visit Yan Mansion in the daylight, but quietly slipped over at four o'clock in the morning.
At this time, the whole Yan Mansion was in a deep sleep, and although Lu Bing was in a high position, he could not avoid begging the janitor of the Yan Mansion at this time, and the janitor agreed to go in and give him a return.
Yan Shifan and Lu Bing are in-laws, so although he was awakened in his sleep, he still received Lu Bing very politely. Lu Bing was originally sincere and kind to people, and at this time he asked for others, so he very tactfully expressed his desire to save Yu Dayou.
For the sake of Chongjin and Lu Bing's face, Yan Song and Yan Shibo father and son agreed to Lu Bing's request.
Yu Dayou was released and was able to gallop across the battlefield again and make meritorious contributions in battle.
In the entire process of saving Yu Dayou, Lu Bing was willing to give up gold and silver, and regardless of his personal identity and dignity, he begged the Yan father and son in a low voice, such an action looked at the entire imperial court at that time, and presumably no one could do it like him.
4. Help Yan Song bring down Xia Yan
During the Jiajing Dynasty, Xia Yan was a rare cabinet minister who could compete with Yan Song, and his final downfall was directly related to Lu Bing.
Lu Bing originally had a good relationship with Xia Yan, but Lu Bing also did some illegal things in normal times, so he was impeached by the imperial history. Although he was protected by Jiajing, the cabinet minister Xia Yan refused to let go, and Xia Yan claimed to intend to punish Lu Bing as a crime.
Lu Bing hurriedly used the method of sending money to solve the problem again, but he didn't expect Xia Yan to eat this set.
Lu Bing had no choice, so he had to kneel in front of Xia Yan and keep apologizing to him. Xia Yan agreed to let Lu Bing go.
Although he was let go by Xia Yan, even in front of Jiajing, Lu Bing had never been so embarrassed, how could he not hold a grudge? So he, like Yan Song, always wanted to bring down Xia Yan in his heart.
With Yan Song and Lu Bing, the two members of the imperial court, how can Xia Yan's good days be long? In 1548, when Lu Bing interrogated the border generals, he obtained letters exchanged between Xia Yan and the generals, which confirmed Xia Yan's "crime". Under the impeachment of Yan Song and others, Xia Yan was arrested and executed soon after, becoming the first cabinet chief in the history of the Ming Dynasty to be executed.
After Xia Yan was executed, Lu Bing was promoted to the rank of Right Governor for meritorious service.
With Xia Yan here, Yan Song still has some scruples about doing bad things, and now that Xia Yan has fallen, Yan Song has no scruples about doing things from now on.
Yan Song was very grateful to Lu Bing for helping him bring down Xia Yan, and since then, like Jiajing, he has been very indulgent about what Lu Bing has done, and the first thing that comes to mind when there is anything bad that needs to be found to cooperate with is Lu Bing.
Encourage Yan Song to do evil, perhaps this is one of the reasons why Lu Bing was included in the "Legend of Yu Xing".
5. The scenery is incomparable
In 1551, Lu Bing was again promoted to Zuo Dudu for meritorious service. In 1552, Jiajing made Lu Bing crown prince taibao, and soon added him to the title of young bao and crown prince taifu. In 1557, Jiajing again crowned Lu Bing as a taibao and young fu.
Although Taibao and Taifu are fictitious positions, they are ranked as the third duke, and their status is extremely honorable; Young Fu and Shaobao belong to the "three orphans", the official position is only lower than the three dukes, and it is already extremely prominent that ordinary ministers can be crowned with one of them, but Lu Bing has both at the same time, which is the first in the history of the Ming Dynasty.
In the matter of sealing Lu Bing, Jiajing did not hide his love, he knew that there had never been a precedent for any minister in the Ming Dynasty to use the precedent of three dukes and three orphans, but he still insisted on giving this honor to Lu Bing, and Jiajing also specially issued an edict for Lu Bing: "It is okay to be both public and lonely!"
In terms of Lu Bing's loyalty to Jiajing, Lu Bing is obviously worthy of Jiajing's love.
But this is not the case with historical evaluation, because even Jiajing himself has not been well evaluated in history, and as Jiajing's most valued courtier, Lu Bing will inevitably be included in the category of "luck" because he has done too much for Jiajing and he has also received too much.
