The number of so-called "friends" in Taiwan has been dwindling since Tsai came to power in 2016, and Honduras is the ninth country to make a wise decision. At present, the DPP authorities still have 13 such "friends", although the total area of these countries is only more than 580,000 square kilometers, the total population is more than 38 million, and the total GDP is only 130 billion US dollars, but the existence of these countries is of great significance to Taiwan's political circles.
Their "relations" with the Taiwan authorities, although of no practical effect to the "Taiwan independences," are an important aspect of their diplomatic success to the Taiwan people. However, for the people of these countries, it is in their real interest to establish diplomatic relations with Chinese mainland. In other words, they benefit more from the Chinese mainland's strong economy and international influence.

Also currently associated with Taiwan are Eswatini, the Vatican, Nauru, Palau, Tuvalu, the Marshall Islands, Haiti, Paraguay, Saint Lucia, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Belize, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Guatemala, some of which are island States that, although small in size, possess considerable maritime territory. And some of these countries, although small in size and sparsely populated, play a special role in geopolitics.
Taking Eswatini as an example, this small country in southern Africa, although not visible in the world, is an important member of Taiwan's so-called "friend" because it is Taiwan's only "diplomatic partner" in Africa.
