Pythagoras was a native of Samos and was born in 580 BC. At that time, the island's economic strength was so strong that it was comparable to Milidu next door. Pythagoras' father was also a wealthy merchant on the island.
The ruler of Samos, named Lucrates, was a rich man with a powerful navy in his hands, who often went out to rob and did bad things.
But this old Lu is very fond of art, he built a lot of beautiful buildings on the island, and also raised a bunch of poets, and is very popular among intellectuals. But Pythagoras looked down on him and didn't like his government. So he left his hometown and went to Egypt in the east to study.
Xiao Bi's brain is very clever, and as a child, he has mastered the religions of the Middle East. At the age of 29, he was ordered by Greek masters such as Thales and Anaximander. After 13 years in Egypt, he has a clear understanding of the language, mythology, history, and religion. After that, he went to Babylon and studied mathematics well. At the age of 49, Pythagoras, who had learned to be rich in five cars, finally returned to his hometown.
To his displeasure, Lucrates, who had ruled his hometown, was not dead. Old Bi was disgusted to see him, so after a few years at home, he took his elderly mother and his only disciple and moved to Croton in southern Italy.
There, he created a secret association that had both religious attributes and studied politics, philosophy, and mathematics.
Probably because there were too many mysterious religions in Egypt, Pythagoras had a heavy tendency to mysterious ideas, and his community also designed many rules that gods and gods nagged: such as not eating beans, not picking up things when they fall off, not touching white roosters, not eating hearts, and so on. These things, though very interesting, are little more than his achievements in mathematics.
Lao Bi is a genius in mathematics, he not only discovered important formulas such as the golden section and the Pythagorean theorem, but also got an important conclusion in his research work: everything is counted!
In Beck's view, everything is made up of numbers: for example, you have 5 fingers, 7 chairs in the house, 18 tables, 100 houses in the community, and so on. Anything can be abstracted into numbers as long as you like.
Therefore, numbers (especially integers) are the root cause of the formation of cosmic order; the types of numbers and the relationship between numbers constitute the basic laws of the operation of the world. Everything is made of numbers.
The significance of this discovery is not small, not only allowing science to find its own door, but also opening up a more rational and practical way forward for philosophy. Even the development of astronomy and music has benefited greatly.
But this achievement does not satisfy Lao Bi's ambition, he wants to create a religious empire with mathematics as the core and can be passed down through the ages! So he struck iron while it was hot and gave a number of important philosophical meanings: 1, which represents the source of all things; 2, represents the unity of opposites; 4, represents justice; 5, represents marriage; 8, represents harmony; 10, represents perfection, and so on. Looking at it like this, is there a little bit of the taste of the I Ching?
With this sophisticated and mysterious theoretical system, the Pythagorean school became famous in southern Italy and won the favor of a large number of believers. Of course, as a religion, in addition to practicing mathematics every day, Bishi also advocated universal principles such as fairness, discipline, justice, and abstinence.
In addition, one of the biggest characteristics of this school is its tolerance for women. Lao Bi not only allowed women to listen to his lectures, but also accepted more than a dozen female disciples (one of whom became his wife), and he also vigorously advocated equality and mutual respect between men and women. This was a very valuable thing in that era.
After living under the aura for a long time, people are inevitably a little fluttery, and Lao Bi is no exception. In his later years, he began to feel that he might not be a person, but a god, at least a demigod. But as the saying goes, often walk by the river, where are the shoes that are not wet? Because of a disciple who did not have long eyes, Pythagoras almost overturned the car.
Here's the thing, Pythagoras had an apprentice named Hippasos. During an exercise, he stumbled upon a square with an extra length of 1, whose diagonal length was not an integer, but a root number two. With deep incomprehension, the apprentice could only ask the teacher for advice.
When he saw this irrational number, Lao Bi was like five thunderbolts! He was a die-hard fan of integers, and his philosophical system was built on the basis of integers. Once the existence of Gen-no-2 is recognized, the Bi school will be in danger of being uprooted!
Therefore, in order to cause tragedy, Lao Bi decided to kill people and kill people, and he ordered his men to throw Hippathos into the sea!
However, the curse of Genji II never disappeared. Not only did the disciples' faith in Lao Bi waver, but his community also aroused the hatred of other local religious organizations. During an onslaught, the club's premises were so badly damaged that he was forced to move to Lyndon, where he died at the age of 80.
