Automatica's 2023 annual survey shows that Chinese workers want ChatGPT to help them make decisions

  • 87% of respondents support the use of AI services in the workplace
  • Only 10% of respondents are very concerned about the use of robots

87% of Chinese employees support the use of AI services such as ChatGPT to help them make the right decisions in the workplace. However, the same percentage of employees expect such digital tools to be immediately treated as machines. These are the findings of the Automatica Trend Index 2023. The study surveyed 1,000 Chinese employees on behalf of Automatica, the leading trade fair for intelligent automation and robotics (June 27-June 30, Munich, Germany).

"Bots and AI software such as ChatGPT are rapidly shaping the future of the workplace. If we can use these technologies correctly, it will be possible to greatly improve our workplace. Patrick Schwarzkopf, a member of the advisory board of automatica, based at the Messe Munich in Germany, said.

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) of the People's Republic of China released a five-year development plan for the robotics industry in Beijing, with a focus on helping China become a global leader in robotics technology and industrial advancement. The scarcity of global electronics reflects the need for additional capacity, among other things, which further indicates the demand for robots in the industry. The automotive industry has also announced a number of investment plans. These investments are necessary to comply with the government's plan to increase the share of new energy vehicles in new vehicle registrations to 50% by 2035. At the same time, China's aging population has led to labor shortages, which has also promoted the development of robotic automation.

71% of respondents are convinced that robots can help manufacturers solve the shortage of factory workers. The majority of employees are happy to accept the benefits of smart machines: 90 percent of respondents support the use of robots in factories for jobs that are harmful to health, such as lifting heavy objects or hazardous tasks involving hazardous materials such as chemicals. When considering the future of the workplace, about 20% of employees are very concerned about using robots in factories because workers need special training to use them. Another 44% of respondents have a mixed attitude. 64% of employees strongly support these machines because they lead to more qualification-focused jobs that offer higher pay.

Patrick Schwarzkopf said: "We need to actively manage the transition to good collaboration between machines and humans, ensuring that no one is left behind". "At Automatica 2023, the world's leading exhibition for intelligent automation and robotics in Munich, Germany, how traditional manufacturing is changing and how the workplace of the future will evolve was one of the key topics.
