Cheng Yi on "getting and not being able to"

author:Two journeys home

Cheng Yi said: If you want to know what you want to know, you should test it in your heart. Thinking is good, the center is happy. Those who have a lot of money, they have to do it. Those who have thoughts and worries, those who are exhausted by the heart, but they have not yet gained, and they have a strong ear. (Zheng Shu) (The Second Journey Collection, p. 16)

If you want to know whether you have gained anything, you can test it from people's hearts. When you feel that you have gained and have a new understanding in your mind, you will feel pleasure in your heart. This feeling of being full of energy and feeling generous in the heart is what you really get. And those who feel that although they have gained, they feel that their hearts are depleted, they have no gain, but they are just strong in speculation there.

The "gain" that Cheng Yi refers to here includes moral progress, understanding of problems, and many other aspects. In his opinion, everything he has obtained through thinking will have pleasure and pleasure in his heart, and there will be a feeling of sudden enlightenment and entering a new world. It's a heartfelt sense of well-being, fulfillment, and pride. And those things that take effort to get are not real in the heart. It is only the speculation of the heart, or the scheme to achieve some purpose, and this kind of thinking will not be pleasant in the heart. In real life, when you have made progress in understanding through your own efforts, or your career has progressed, your heart is full and happy; and when you seek unreasonable benefits through improper means, your heart is not happy, but you often have the feeling of fear of accidents.
