Guan Xiangying: Loyal and dedicated, for the party and the country

author:Study Times

Guan Xiangying was born in 1902 in Jinxian County, Liaoning Province (present-day Jinzhou District, Dalian, Liaoning Province). In 1922, he entered the Dalian Taidong Daily newspaper and began to accept the influence of Marxism-Leninism under the influence of Communist Party members Li Zhenying and Chen Weiren.

In April 1924, Guan Xiangying joined the Chinese Socialist Youth League. In May, he came to Shanghai to engage in revolutionary work and enrolled in Shanghai University for further study. At the end of the year, according to the organization's arrangement, he went to Moscow to study. Before leaving, he wrote to his uncle: "The world rises and falls, and the pirate is responsible... Willing to run all his life, to do his best in case, to save the people from slaughtering charcoal, to sacrifice his family, to fight against the international imperialists with all his might, this nephew's ambition is also the nephew's only outlook on life. In January 1925, Guan Xiangyin joined the Communist Party of China in Moscow.

After the outbreak of the May Thirtieth Movement, Guan Xiangying returned from the Soviet Union and successively engaged in the workers' movement and the Communist Youth League in Shanghai, Shandong and other places. In June 1928, he attended the Sixth Party Congress in Moscow and was elected a member of the Central Committee. After the meeting, Guan Xiangying returned to China and went to Shanghai, Wuhan, and other places to engage in revolutionary work.

In 1931, guan xiangying was unfortunately arrested in Shanghai for betrayal by traitors. In prison, although he was tortured, he remained unyielding, gritting his teeth and insisting on not revealing his identity and not divulging the secrets of the party. Nearly 8 months later, after being actively rescued by the party organization, he was released on bail.

After his release from prison, Guan Xiangying came to the revolutionary base area in western Xiang'e, where he served as a member of the Xiang'e-West Branch of the CPC Central Committee, chairman of the Xiang'e-Exi Military Commission, and political commissar of the Red Army, fighting side by side with He Long. He Long and Guan Xiangying also understood each other in the course of the battle, learned from each other's strong points, and complemented each other's weaknesses, thus creating a brilliant example of high-ranking cadres in the history of our party and our army who have shown great respect for each other, are sincerely united, and have long-term cooperation.

After the outbreak of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Guan Xiang was appointed political commissar of the 120th Division of the Eighth Route Army. In order to implement the principle of "going deep behind enemy lines and independently waging guerrilla warfare" put forward by the party Central Committee, he and He Long led their troops to cross the Yellow River in the east and marched to Shanxi, persisted in the War of Resistance in North China, and ignited the anti-Japanese beacon in North China.

However, Guan Xiang should become ill with overwork and be knocked down by a serious illness. At the repeated urging of the Party Central Committee, in the autumn of 1941, he returned to Yan'an to recuperate. In 1945, although he was unable to attend the Seventh National Congress of the Communist Party of China due to illness, he was elected as a member of the Central Committee. On 24 April, seriously ill, he wrote a farewell letter to the Party Central Committee: "The whole Party and the whole army should be like one person, closely united around the Central Committee led by Comrade Mao Zedong, believing that our Party and the Chinese revolution must be finally victorious." Between the words, there is a bold loyalty to the party and the revolution.

On July 21, 1946, Guan Xiangying died of illness in Yan'an at the age of 44. Until 5 minutes before his breathing stopped, he still said in a weak voice: "It doesn't matter, I will still live and continue to work for the party..." The Si people have passed away, and the spirit will live forever! Mao Zedong wrote an inscription for him: "Be loyal, serve the party and the country, and Comrade Xiangying will not die." This is a tribute to his short and glorious life, and the best tribute to his glorious revolutionary career.
