Xiaoman, probably the most Chinese solar term

The happiest thing is just a family reunion, the years are quiet Feng Zikai Comics (Public Version)

Xiaoman is a very special solar term, because it contains one of Chinese's favorite truths, called "contentment and happiness".

If there is a small summer, there must be a big summer

If there is a small cold, there must be a big cold

But small man

There must be no big full

Because of the big man

Not in line with the wisdom of our ancients

Xiaoman's day

The rain began to increase

The river is getting full

The ears of wheat begin to gradually plump

But

Not fully full yet

So Xiao Man's state is particularly good

Xiao Man represents an attitude towards life

It's that we've always been

On the road to perfection

But it is not required

It must be perfect

So from this point of view

Xiaoman

It's actually a year

The best one solar term

It's also my favorite day

Send you a poem that I like

The flowers are not fully blooming, and the moon is not full

Mid-level drunk

Why worry about profit and loss

In the end, small is better than everything

The above text comes from the Douyin blogger "Beida Mange", which has five million followers, and is definitely one of the few modern Chinese who wrote the essence of Xiaoman.

This passage was later copied by Andy Lau's Audi commercial, probably because agent M&C Saatchi realized that he could no longer produce the same level of small Manchu copywriting.

Baidu Encyclopedia records:

"The name of Manchu has two meanings. First, it is related to climate precipitation. During the Xiaoman solar term, heavy rainfall in the south began to increase, and precipitation was frequent; The folk saying goes, 'Little full and small full, rivers are gradually full'. The 'full' in Xiao Man refers to the abundance of rain. ”

"Second, it is related to agricultural wheat. In the northern region, there is little or no rainfall during the small full solar term, and this 'full' does not refer to precipitation, but to the fullness of wheat. ”

At the time of Xiaoman, the heavy rainfall in the south began to increase, but it must not be too much, too much will cause flooding.

Similarly, wheat in the north, despite its lack of water, is still thriving, which is probably the best state when it is ripe and ready to be harvested.

Life is like the moon, and when the moon is full, it loses. Life is like water, and when it is full, it overflows.

This is the conventional wisdom of Chinese.

One hundred years ago, Mr. Lin Yutang, the spokesperson of Chinese culture in the English-speaking world, pointed out: "A happy life is nothing more than four things: one is to sleep in your own bed; the second is to eat the dishes made by the parents; the third is to listen to the lover's love words; The fourth is to play games with children. ”

A hundred years later, the four things of Chinese's happy life may no longer have such a standard answer. But during the lockdown last year, everyone suddenly had the opportunity to enjoy these four things.

My Country and My People is a collection of essays by Mr. Lin, written in English, first published in the United States in 1935, introducing the world to the culture of Chinese and Chinese.

This culture is characterized by eclecticism on the outside and contentment on the inside.

The idiom "contentment and happiness" comes from Lao Tzu, chapter 44 of the Tao Te Ching: "Therefore, contentment is not disgraced, knowledge is not lost, and it can be long-lasting."

The translation of modern Chinese is roughly as follows: "If you know how to be satisfied, you will not be humiliated; If you know how to stop in moderation, you will not encounter danger, so that you can get long-term peace. ”

But few people have noticed that the previous sentence of this article is "If you love much, you will spend a lot, and if you hide it, you will die." ”

The modern meaning is roughly as follows: "If you prefer too much, you will have a big cost, and too much collection will have a big loss." ”

What kind of talent has the conditions to "spend a lot" or "hide thickly"? The most likely should be a rich person or a powerful person.

Therefore, many scholars interpreted this sentence as: Lao Tzu's words were mainly to remind the powerful class at that time not to indulge their greed too much, rather than ordinary people.

They further questioned: For ordinary people, should we instead advocate "insufficient knowledge"? If you don't work hard, you don't know where the money for giving birth to your first child comes from, do you silently chant "contentment and happiness" and lie flat on the spot?

Another of Chinese's philosophical masterpieces, "Vegetable Root Tan", also wrote:

"The greedy one wants to share the money and want jade, the prince does not give the marquis, and the powerful are willing to beggar;"

"The contented will be anointed with sorghum, the cloth robe warms the fox, and the people will not let the prince."

It means: an insatiable person who receives gold and silver but is annoyed that he cannot get beautiful jade, who is made a duke and resents not being made a marquis, who is obviously a powerful family but is willing to become a spiritual beggar.

And those who are content and happy feel that wild vegetables taste more beautiful than fish, and coarse cloth robes are warmer than fox skins and raccoons, although as commoners of weaving households, they are more comfortable and satisfied than princes.

"Caigen Tan" is a Confucian classic collected and compiled by Hong Yingming, a first Taoist in the Ming Dynasty, and is a collection of quotations on cultivation, life, life and birth.

The book mainly warns the world to change their minds in time, guard against greed and desire, and take the golden mean.

Finally, I chose a Xiaoman poem by Mingren to give to everyone, which is a scene describing southerners happily trying to plant rice in Xiaoman, and at this time the ears of wheat in the north are full, just waiting for a harvest of golden autumn.

"April" by Ming Dynasty Wenpeng

I love Jiangnan Xiaomantian,

The anchovy is first served chilled.

After a hoopoe sleep,

Planted all over the new green fields.
