On the morning of May 17, WuXi AppTec and WuXi Biologics announced that after 20 years of fighting cancer, co-founder Zhao Ning passed away on May 16, 2023.

According to the announcement, Ning Zhao is a co-founder, one of the actual controllers, director and senior vice president of WuXi AppTec, a co-founder and non-executive director of WuXi Biologics, a member of the remuneration committee and a member of the environmental, social and governance committee.
According to WuXi AppTec's annual report, Zhao Ning (female), born in November 1966, Ph.D., American nationality, has obtained a permanent residence permit for foreigners in the People's Republic of China. He received his B.S. in Chemistry from Peking University and his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Columbia University.
From 1995 to 1996, Zhao Ning worked as a scientist at Wyeth Pharmaceutical Company in the United States. From 1996 to 1999, he served as Senior Scientist and Head of Scientific Research at Pharmacopeia Inc., from 1999 to 2004, he served as Senior Scientist and Head of Division at Squibb Pharmaceuticals, Inc., and since 2004, he has served at WuXi AppTec (including the predecessor of the Company), where he has served as Head of the Analytics Business Unit and Vice President, Chief Consultant of the Analytics Operations Platform, Senior Vice President of Operations and Human Resources and Executive Director.
Zhao Ning is Li Ge's spouse. Li Ge is the Chairman, Executive Director, President (Chief Executive Officer) of WuXi AppTec and Chairman and Non-executive Director of WuXi Biologics.
According to public information, WuXi AppTec was established in December 2000, listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 2006, and completed its privatization and delisting in 2015. In May 2018, WuXi AppTec was listed on the A-share market, and its main businesses include CRO (contract R&D services), chemical drug CDMO (contract R&D and manufacturing business), cell and gene therapy CTDMO (contract testing, R&D and manufacturing) and other fields.
In terms of shareholding structure, WuXi AppTec has no controlling shareholders, and Li Ge, Zhao Ning, Liu Xiaozhong and Zhang Zhaohui signed an agreement on concerted action, agreeing that they, as shareholders and directors of the company, will act in unison on all decision-making matters at the general meeting of shareholders and the board of directors, and are the actual controllers of the company, jointly controlling a total of 23.5825% of the voting rights of the company.
In WuXi Biologics, Li Ge, Zhao Ning, Zhang Zhaohui and Liu Xiaozhong entered into a concerted action agreement on June 30, 2016, with the four holding a total of 15.24% of the shares.
In the secondary market, at the close of trading on May 16, WuXi AppTec's A shares fell 0.28% to 68.84 yuan / share, and H shares rose 1.41% to 71.95 Hong Kong dollars / share. WuXi Biologics rose 0.97% to HK$46.70 per share. (Zhongxin Jingwei APP)
