The skin is inexplicably festering? Doctor's Urgent Reminder: Danger

The last wave of cold air was still there, and a more powerful wave of cold came. In order to resist the cold, in addition to "autumn clothes and autumn pants" and "a healthy atmosphere", friends have secretly taken out "dusty" hot water bottles, warm babies, electric blankets... But you know what? These "heating artifacts" can hurt you if used improperly!

"Doctor, my daughter has a red rash on her leg, it hurts, and there are small blisters, what's going on?" Just two days ago, Ms. Zhang (pseudonym), who lives in Linping, rushed to the dermatology department of Yuhang Fifth Hospital with her 7-year-old daughter.

Dr. Wu Runze, who was treated, carefully observed and asked, "Have you ever been exposed to anything?" Ms. Zhang thought about it for a while, "Yesterday I was afraid that my daughter was too cold, and I flushed a hot water bottle for her to use for one night when I slept, is it related to this?" ”

Wu Runze saw the redness and swelling and small blisters on the little girl's legs, and the area was not large, combined with the use of a hot water bottle for one night, judging that it was a "low temperature burn" caused by the hot water bottle.

Coincidentally, Xiao Zhou (pseudonym), a girl in her early 20s, is also one of the patients with "low temperature burns".

In the winter, Xiao Zhou likes to hoard a lot of "warm babies", and one sticker a day has become her winter routine. But over time, she found that her belly began to redden, and then gradually evolved into blisters, peeling, and festering.

What is a low temperature burn?

Speaking of burns, many friends will immediately have hot boiling water in their minds, in fact, it is not, so that the skin is exposed to objects above body temperature for a long time, and it is likely to cause burns. For example, if a low-heat object at 45 ° C touches the skin for more than 30 minutes, there may be burns, which are called "low temperature burns".

"We can compare low-temperature scalds to 'warm boiled frogs', which do not feel much pain in the process, but when exposed to low-heat objects above body temperature for a long time, the heat damage generated by the outside world will gradually invade from the epidermis layer to the dermis layer from shallow to deep, and even reach the subcutaneous tissue and muscles, eventually causing burns." Wu Runze explained.

What is more frightening is that unlike "high temperature burns", the pain of "low temperature burns" is not obvious, and only erythema, edema, blistering, peeling and other symptoms will appear, and the area is relatively small. However, because the temperature is not high, the wound is difficult to detect, and when the symptoms actually appear, the degree of skin damage is already more serious.

There are three common cases of "hot water bottle burns"

"Hot water bottle burns" is one of the main reasons for "low temperature burns". On December 31, the day after the last wave of cold waves, half of the 12 patients treated by the Wound Stoma Specialist Nursing Clinic of the Yuhang Fifth Hospital Development Branch Hospital were burned, and three were burned by hot water bottles.

1. The quality of hot water bottles on the market is uneven, some counterfeit and inferior products have poor latex quality, the heat insulation effect is not good, coupled with the use of too many years, resulting in latex aging, it is easy to cause burns.

2. In order to pursue a better warm effect, some friends will stick the hot water bottle to the skin, or simply press it under the body, resulting in excessive heat effect and eventually forming a burn. Some friends did not tighten the plug when using it, and the hot water flowed to the skin and caused burns.

3. After the cold weather, the warm touch of the human body will be reduced, especially the elderly, diabetics, paralyzed patients, infants and young children who are not sensitive to temperature or cannot express themselves. These people tend to have thinner skin, poorer protective and regenerative abilities, and often limited expression, so they are more susceptible to burns.

How to prevent it? What to do after a burn?

1. Be sure to buy a "warm artifact" with quality assurance.

2. When the hot water bottle is used, it can be wrapped on the outside with a towel to prevent direct contact with the skin, including the warm baby, and it cannot be used directly against the skin.

3. When the hot water bottle is used, it cannot be placed in the same position for a long time, and the position should be changed in general about 30 minutes. Therefore, never use a hot water bottle when you are about to fall asleep, because it is difficult to guarantee that the position of the hot water bottle will change after you fall asleep.

4. When using hot water bottles in normal times, develop good habits, first add cold water, then heat water, try the water temperature before use, the water temperature generally does not exceed 50 degrees, each time soaking feet do not exceed 30 minutes.

5. Once burned, there is redness, swelling, blisters, do not rub toothpaste, garlic, etc., do not try to use needles to break the blisters. At this time, it is best to rinse the burn site with running cold water for 15 to 20 minutes immediately, and disinfect and sterilize with iodine or normal saline, and when the burn is serious, it is necessary to enter the hospital in time to avoid delaying the best treatment time.
