Lu Xun's idle time in Peiping

Lu Xun bought a courtyard house for 3,500 oceans in Beiping

The reason why it is called Beiping and not Beijing is because when Lu Xun was in Beijing, Beijing was called Beiping. At that time, Beiping was still a small city, far less spacious than today's second-tier cities, and its area was probably equivalent to a prefecture-level city today. At that time, the earthen city wall of the Yuan capital that still remained intact, that is, between the current third and fourth ring roads. It is also in the area of Beitucheng and Anzhenmen. Out there, as far as the eye can see, it is a deserted countryside. There are old photographs of tired caravans entering the city from there, led by bloatedly dressed camel herders.

Lu Xun did "North Drift", all because he ate official meals and did the Ministry of Education's affairs, and his position was equivalent to the section chief in the ministry today, only slightly higher.

In the early days of the Republic of China, Yuan Shikai became the great president and moved the capital to Beiping, and Lu Xun moved to Beiping with the Ministry of Education, like duckweed weeds, landing on the ground for 14 years. It is not what modern people expect, how beautiful Lu Xun was at that time, like a leader of public opinion. In fact, Lu Xun was just a "little lotus showing sharp corners" literary and artistic dick at that time, very leisurely, but also very faint.

In the first seven years, Lu Xun nested in the Shaoxing Guild Hall, located in the west of the southern half of the hutong in the south of Caishikou. The guild hall is in disrepair, almost stormy, and the population is mixed, and it is not a good place to study and study. It is no different from the ant tribe in today's North Drift. In addition to going to the Ministry of Education, Lu Xun was almost all in the guild hall, like a professional calligrapher, copying monuments and filling up posts, picking up missing items, and burying them in the pile of old papers. Judging from Lu Xun's manuscripts, among their Republican writers, Lu Xun's calligraphy is the most regular and legal. There are not only six dynasties wind bones, but also many rivers and left wind currents. At that time, Lu Xun's greatest pleasure was to wander around the Liuli Factory and search for books.

Later, at the end of 1919, Lu Xun moved out of the guild hall and bought a new house in No. 11 Courtyard of Badaowan for another three years, Lu Xun was discordant with his second brother Zhou Zuoren, and the brother turned against him, he absolutely moved out of Badaowan and lived in the nearby Brick Tower Hutong. Later, Lu Xun purchased a second house in Peiping, a typical courtyard house. The three south rooms are reception rooms and library rooms; There is one miscellaneous room in the east and west of the courtyard; There are three rooms in the north house, and a small flat-roofed room is taken out on the north side, which is Lu Xun's bedroom and study (it should be illegal now, and the urban management will demolish it). This room is like a tail at the back of a courtyard, which Lu Xun jokingly called "tiger tail". He wrote about the tree in the house in his essay "Autumn Night": "In my back garden, I could see two trees outside the wall, one was a date tree and the other was also a date tree. He used a small brush called "Jin Bu Change" to copy the inscription and write down this famous sentence.

Lu Xun's idle time in Peiping

Lu Xun's former residence

"Listening to plays, eating small restaurants, and visiting glass factories" are the three major pleasures of the literati of the Republic of China, and Mr. Lu Xun is incomparable. After he was a monk in the Ministry of Education at that time, he was bored, and often had his best friend Xu Shouchang invite him to go to Liuli Factory to search for books and relax. Lu Xun is very fond of Liuli Factory, and long before he came to Beiping, Lu Xun, who loves ancient books, once wrote to a friend in Beiping: "I heard that Beijing Liuli Factory has quite a few classics, do you want to be like this, have you ever seen it?" "Now, he is in Beiping, naturally he will not let go of Liuli Factory. "Lu Xun's Diary" records that during Lu Xun's 14 years in Beiping, he visited Liuli Factory 480 times, and bought more than 3,800 books and inscriptions, of which most of them were inscriptions, which shows his interest in calligraphy at that time. Often, after visiting the Liuli Factory, Mr. Lu Xun often goes to the Dongsheng Ping bath on the nearby Yangmeizhuxie Street to take a bath and cut his hair, or walk along Tieshuxie Street to Dashilar West Street in search of food.

On a winter afternoon, the sun was shining, there was no wind, no smog, and the sky was a rare blue, which netizens called APEC blue. Due to the smog infestation, Beijing has rarely had such blue. I went to the area of Dashilar to search, the hutongs and courtyard courtyards, the situation is very different from that year, all the old houses have been renovated, remodeled, and renovated, and they no longer look like the old Beiping. The interiors of some houses are more reborn, completely Europeanized, and there are some old-fashioned furniture, which is not the same as before. Dashilar West Street is a Beijing-style snack street, the whole street is not long, narrow, just hundreds of meters, but hundreds of special snacks.

Back then, after Lu Xun visited the Liuli Factory, wandering here, he always had to look for one or two dim sum, flip through the inscriptions on the books, and chase after him. According to Lu Xun's Diary, the number of times he stepped on the big fence was no less than that of going to Liuli Factory. The literati are good books, the scholars are good at the inscriptions, and the food is also good. Eating and eating at the same time are both good.

There is data research to corroborate that during Lu Xun's 14 years in Peiping, there were 65 restaurants frequented, including high-end restaurants, Western-style restaurants, and of course, noisy market restaurants. Lu Xun has a lot of drunken experience, and after drinking, he went to Changguangheju to eat hangover soup "three non-sticky teeth", that is, non-stick spoon, non-stick plate, non-sticky teeth, which is the signature snack of Guangguangheju. Naturally, Lu Xun will never let go of the Shanyin restaurant that specializes in Shaoxing cuisine, and always drinks some Shaoxing old altar flower carvings. The wine is not drunk, and the people are drunk, as if they got on the Wupeng boat and fluttered back to their hometown of San'in.

Lu Xun's idle time in Peiping

Lu Xun's speech is a photo

It is true that Lu Xun is not blindly idle, but also relaxed, and he is also invited to give lectures at various universities in Peiping. When he went, he still looked very idle, often wearing a gray robe, just like he saw in the photo, short hair standing upright, with lips, a pale and thin face, rarely smiling, standing there wooden, eyes level with the audience, and speaking in a gentle tone, like an elder speaking to a child. There is no official language, no literary and artistic accent, and his burning thoughts are flashing in the words. In Lu Xun's 14 years in Peiping, he gave five speeches, the famous "Five Lectures on Peiping", unfortunately, two of the five speeches were revised by Mr. and collected in the "Collection of Extraterrestrial Collections", and the rest were all lost. I think this is a regret for Peiping, or now Beijing, a loss of ideology and culture.

Returning to Lu Xun's idle Beiping time, speaking of idleness, in fact, it is not idle at all, Lu Xun just threw most of his time into the study of calligraphy. With so many copies of inscriptions and so many additions to incomplete volumes, it is difficult for a professional calligrapher and paleographer to come to work.

To be honest, I envy Mr. this idle time, calligraphy is the art of writing people one by one, and being able to grow old in this time is really a blessing.
